Hello,
This is Martin in Menifee CA. My car is a 2001 xk8 convert.
Question concerning the white capped screw between the column support allen bolts:
I'm about to remove the steering upper cowlings just below the steering wheel to get at this screw per various photos on the Forum.
Since my steering wheel reach control has failed, I'm curious as to winding out the wheel to full reach by turning the white capped screw between the mounting allen bolts? My steering wheel is in fully retracted position and does not respond to switch.
Before removing the cowling, thought to get advice as to turning that screw with an 8mm socket in a CCW direction in order to manually move the wheel to full reach.
Concerned about moving things in the tangle of wiring and air bag controls. I'm not electrically trained so don't want to mess up the wires and connectors.
Or is this inadvisable for reason of tearing up the winding mechanism? If I can get the steering wheel to full reach, intend to never use the electrical controls again.
Not going to use force if this can be done with a careful hand.
Any advice is appreciated. Trying to do this at home in order to save a spendy repair if not necessary.
Thanks,
Martin
