Default Stuck in Sport mode

Dear catlovers,

First issue with the recently purchased XKR 2003 4.2. I drove the car for a day or two without trying out the sport mode. Then I activated the sport mode, all working fine. Now the car is however stuck in the sport mode, and pressing the button again unlits the red led, but when I release the button, the light comes back on.

Anyone experienced the same thing, or is there a known solution for this issue?

Cheers,

Martin

When off the button should latch and stay in the down position.

I took mine out and it looked like it had 10 years worth of spilled coffee gumming it up. Shot it with some electrical contact cleaner (no not in the car), then lubed the spring mechanism on the sides.

Works like new.

Ok, that makes sense to me. The led turns off when in the down position. I thought it was a digital toggle switch at first, but now I realize that it should latch. Looks like the latching is broken then. Any chance to repair that, or am I looking at a new switch?

Does the JTIS include information on how to remove/replace this switch?

if you take off the bezel surround, you can see how the button recesses into the bezel (see the FAQ thread to take off the bezel with any old credit card slid between the jgate and bezel at 1, 5, 7, and 11 o'clock.

I've replaced one already, and its easily broken when something lands on the button. I've now damaged my new one, and I have to 'massage' my button to the right when i press it to get it to stick due.

Thanks a lot for the advice, I have ordered a switch on eBay and will proceed with replacement as soon as it arrives.

While we're at it, this chrome bezel around the gear selector, anyone know if it can be polished? (Is it solid metal?) Mine has a couple of marks and scratches, would be nice to get them out.

I'm pretty sure that mine is the aluminium one, so I should be able to polish it up. As you can see in the picture, the black/white paint around the J is also pretty worn out. But as I understand it, you cannot just buy the fascia for the J-Gate alone? Perhaps some paintwork could do it?
