Default Supercharger Airbox Valve Removed

Front of airbox. Notice 2 T25 star screws

Butterfly removed. 4 screws. Easy.

Inside airbox with butterfly out. Airbox is now open at all times. I left the solenoid in for now. Car ran great without the valve today.

I could not verify the SC airbox valve solenoid was working. Any reason not to leave the airbox open like this?
Might put a screen over the opening to keep the mice out.

Looks like it will suck hot air in at low speeds, the opposite of what you want I expect.

Yes that could be the case. I stink at electrical diagnosis and have not been able to determine if the door
is opening when it should (whenever that is, half throttle, full throttle??) or even opening at all. I will drive it like this for
a few days just to see how it does. So far so good.

Can't be hard to glue a thin hair or the like and see if it snaps at full throttle.

Though normally you'd have a solid reason for why you think it's not working!!

Might be working might not. Just trying to make the car faster.

Question

QUOTE=funracer;2046670]Might be working might not. Just trying to make the car faster.[/QUOTE]

Funracer,

Would it be possible to run a hose or something from the Opening through the Front Firewall and out into the open Air of the Grill area so that it would suck cool air and not Engine heated Air? That way you would have the cooler Air from the Wheel Well and Cooler Air from the Open front which would have pressure from the open front as the car rolled down the road…. What is your opinion? Would it work? Is there room to do that? The S/C would really enjoy getting cooler Air into the Throttle Body opening to the S/C...……….? What'd you think?

Maybe some room for experimenting with the airbox butterfly valve. Or maybe its all been done before.
I’m kind of the new guy here so just having fun playing with stuff.

Jaguar must have recognized the S/C car needed more air at some point during the acceleration profile and
installed the airbox door to accomplish that. What if it is always opens at WOT? In that case mine is already there.

We had a system for the C4 Corvettes in the mid 90s that would allow cool air from in front of the car to be ducted
directly into the intake manifold. The faster you went the better it worked but did not do much at low speed. You also had to cut a big hole in framework that allowed the air to enter just where the front license plate would be. It was a slick system but cutting that big hole dissuaded a lot of people including me. It was a kind of an extreme CAI thing.

Been driving the car for a couple of days with the valve out and all is good. It’s only 73 degrees
for the high of the day here so hotter temps might not be so friendly. I can always put it back like it was
if performance suffers. If I can find a good GPS 0-60 mph time app maybe I can do some real world testing.
