I took the control arms off, took them to NTB (said the could do the job). They were able to get the old ones pressed out but damaged one of my new ones installing as they did not brace the arm properly and it shifted. I ended up getting a 20ton press and was able to press the new in. If push comes to shove, not sure how much it would cost to ship them up here but we could discuss the option
Wow that is a super nice offer. I will talk to him again Monday. He said he would do some research over the weekend so maybe he has a plan. If not I can buy myself a 20 ton press for a lot less than $600.
Neil - were you able to get the ball joints removed/replaced??
Yes. Just picked the car up today. He did lower ball joints, trans fluid replaced with Mercon SP and
got the car aligned. It was a tad pricey but I knew the lower BJs were more than I wanted to get into so
I was very happy to pay for two sloppy difficult jobs and an alignment. Car drives fantastic. Next job for me is
SC and Accessory belts and the SRS light is flashing 23. Always something to do with the Jag
I also just want to thank you all for helping with my front suspension project. I read a bunch of threads
on the forum before and during my labors but also asked another bunch of questions as I went along on this thread and others, and was never left without an answer. This forum is invaluable for a DIYer and I will do my best to contribute a
bit here and there. Thanks again
Totally agree that the X100 forum members are totally the "best tool" in my garage. Plenty of good solid advice. Sometimes we disagree, and have different opinions, but I've always been a believer that the best decisions are made based on good, honest opinions.
I was a casual observer on the forum for a while, before I felt it was my responsibility to get involved and help save the X100 from becoming an obsolete scrap car. Not sure if our XK8s/XKRs will ever be a valuable classic, but I fall in the category of a "Sentimental Owner" with a garage and I'm don't mine getting the wrenches out.... don't really like electronics though.
For the suspension job, you almost lost a finger, me I almost got concussion/cracked skull. Sklimii got a 20T press out of it.
Also some threads give a good laugh! Perfect entertainment!
