Well I have located a good tech shop in Rochester who will be getting the car tomorrow.
What is interesting is that I have the option to buy the parts myself for an additional $20 per hour in labor....which probably doesn't make economic sense but he's going to source parts as will I.....SPOILER ALERT-NEW THREAD A COMING.........and we'll compare specs.
They've done a number of chain tensioners, says they have "the tools" needed...are there special tools needed?? But I like the fact that they are flexible and is somewhat chatty!....Car geeks unite!
Actually had a great chat with a senior tech at Jag of Rochester. They've stopped working on cars older than 13. He says the new upgrades to their computers are wiping out a lot of the old stuff....not sure about that but he did recommend a few god shops. He restores old Ford 3/4 trucks.
Thanks again for the help, I'll be blowing up these Forums with photos and details as the progress...uh..progreses.

If they were to do the main tensioners and guides, the front timing cover must be removed. There are special tools for locking the crankshaft, removing the harmonic damper/crankshaft pulley and installing a new crankshaft oil seal. I don't know if you're planning to have them do that at such low miles, but the "ticking time bombs" are the plastic upper timing chain tensioners, which just require removal of the cam covers. I recall that there is a special tool for locking the cams in time while changing the upper tensioners, but most of us use the famous "zip tie method" that doesn't require a special tool.
Well, almost a month to the day that it was purchased I'm heading up to Rochester to pick it up!
Lots of work, but we did suspension, (thanks Wayne!!) cooling hoses (including octopus), chains, tensioners, guides, water pump, t stat and housing, tranny filter, did not need anything besides a good drain and refill at temp. Spent a bit more than I wanted to spend but I'm still well under what I'd pay for one. Less than 50,000 mile coupe with all of the scary stuff and old stuff replaced.
Car passed a NYS Inspection, which is good, and they were PICKY.
Weather seems to have held but there is salt on the highways.
Got a new CTEX MXS 5 on the way.
I'll find out if swmbo will allow it in the garage. Sure would be nice but if not I have a few places to stash it, actually she may prefer....get me out of the house!
Pictures tomorrow.
Ya know.....now that I think of it, I'm starting to like that color...

Congratulations and now that you have a well sorted car, enjoy the ride.
Mine is the same color only the topless one.
Keep us up to date on how you two get along.
My wife was gifted by her sister a 2005 XK8 convertible 1 1/2 years ago, 31000 actual miles. These things will change your life. Makes going for a drive something to look forward to. Hope you enjoy your as much as we do ours.

Well not sure how much getting along I'll have over the next three months up here in the snow belt. Expecting a light 4" accumulation Saturday night so at least she'll be safe.
Many thanks for the help!! I did tell the shop to save the old units twice. Hopefully I'll see them in the trunk and ship them to you asap......Heck, maybe I'll just drive them to you!!!!! Best thing for a car that sat for 10 years!!! And I could leave it there for the winter.....would you mind taking it for a spin now and then?
Too bad you can't change the title to ' Changed by''!

Funny you say that. Frankly I was proud of myself for walking away at the asking price but all the da*n enablers on these forums sent me down this path.
The line that got me was..."you'd be doing the world a favor by saving this car"......
I spent so much time last summer looking at 2013 X150 coupes but never really fell in love with one....well there was this one in Lancaster PA I had the hots for.....but in the end while I know the X100 is considered somewhar square wheel technology vs. the X150 these cars evoke more of the Jaguar feel that I remember from my mid 80's XJ6's....and my old 96 VDP.
Drop dead gorgeous on the outside...old school genteel interior....fun mix.
On the negative side my daily driver Volvo S90 (SPA) acted up for the first time since new in 18. Just dropped dead for ten minutes at a light at a busy intersection before it started again. On the way home w.my college aged daughter from dinner. I don't think she has ever experienced a car breakdown. She was cool...we were laughing at the idiots who lined up behind us even w.my hazards blinking.
To think of some of the junk I drove growing up and the times I've sat on the side of the road waiting for vapor lock to fade or some issue.
Running the car down here is fine, finding a parking spot, not so much. My 6 take up all the indoor space but one more will cost big time, how much is a divorcé these days?
I could tell her it's for track days at Charlotte Motor Speedway, she had fun running a E Type around there and the GT6 on the race circuit.
Have fun and keep us informed.
