Default Throttle cable adjustment

I have read posts on cable adjustment but can't visualize it when I'm looking at mine. Can anyone advise? Am I missing parts? I don't see anything that will hold the cable under tension- no nuts or clamps etc. First time Jaguar owner so it's a bit of a learning curve.

Thank you. No zip tie is present nor the mysterious plastic adjusting nut. Now to the fun stuff. Is it odd that I take comfort in the fact that a luxury car manufacturer is officially endorsing zip ties as their fix? I wonder if any tsb recommends duct tape.

Duct tape probably doesn't create a fix lasting 22 years.

If you compare the photo to the TSB you can see that the black plastic pieces on the metal bracket is the adjusting nut. You lift it straight up and if memory serves me correct you rotate it around the cable housing towards the cable end and then place it back in the bracket. Mine only took about two full turns and the slack was gone. The zip tie wraps around the metal bracket and the plastic sides. Very efficient for adjusting and restoring and keeping the bracket in place.

Default Just did it

I had the TB off on my 2000 xk8 and did the adjustment. The fitting that is in the metal brace off the TB is the adjustment. It should have a tie wrap clip that you need to remove. You then pull the fitting along with the cable out of the metal holder. To adjust the cable you spin the fitting on the cable housing to either tighten it or loosen it. When in place my cable is not tight but there is no slack either. Recmember to secure the fitting with a tie wrap.

Default Thanks all!

I got it done, exactly as you all described. Many thanks. I suppose it's normal that the computer needs time to adjust to new input? When I start it, it revs up to 2k then back down to 700-800 within seconds.

The 'zip-tie' was NOT the fix but an indication that the cable adjustment is correct from the factory or that the adjustment was performed!

The TSB was issued to address a possible problem with certain cars.

Besides, it looks like a salvage yard throttle installed on the engine. No telling if it was installed correctly or WHEN it was installed!!!!!!!!!

That sounds normal. Its the cold start system which runs rich in order not to stall and the RPMS are up. It drops off quickly and at operating termperature , around 200 degress the idle in my car is around 6OO RPM. My car is a 2000.

As I stated, it is not the fix, it was to indicate that the throttle is properly set.

The FIX is to twirl the adjuster to set the throttle.
