Default Timing chain tensioner?

I searched but could not find . . . .
In what model year did Jaguar upgrade to the metal timing chain tensioners?

The updated metal tensioners began in MY year engines of 2000. There are various threads for the particular engine numbers (not VIN). If you have a 2000 or older engine the only sure method is to remove the Cam covers and inspect the tensioners.

Essentially 2002 model year, but its the engine assembly date that's critical, beginning August 13, 2001. So that means that probably the first two months of 2002 X100 production still got the old plastic tensioners.

There was an updated design in 2000 as I recall, but they were still plastic.

Thanks, a friend just opened up a 1999 and it had the metal tensioners. Must have been upgraded by a PO.

My 2001 had the old plastic tensioners, which I replaced a few months ago.
