Default Top Fluid

I am trying to determine if the fluid in my convertable top compressor is the original installed in a 1997 XK8 or if it has been upgraded to CHF11S. Any ideas?

Yes, yellow color is old fluid, green fluid is upgraded fluid. The tank is over the CD player in the boot and is translucent, so just have a look.

This link might help JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource At the bottom you will see a syringe that you can use to add and or remove fluid. I hope this helps.

Default Top Fluid

I siphoned off some fluid with a clear straw and it was yellowish green. Is that CHF11s. Thanks for all your help!

I would be suspicious that it is the old or a mix of the two. CHF11S is a fairly dark green.

If it is questionable and it sounds like a mix I would remove the old and install the new.

In order to remove the fluid from the hoses, latch & rams you will need to empty the tank and fill with new and run your roof system a few times then drain and refill again. Do this process a few times and you will be done with the purge. This system is a closed system and operating it a few times will mix the old with the new and replace the fluid in the latch and rams. The latch and rams are a push/push system and at no time does the fluid to close touch the fluid to open. I should also mention if you remove the pump from the rack do not pinch or bend the hoses and if you elect to remove the hoses mark them. It is critical to the operation to get the hoses reinstalled correctly.

So my spouse broke her leg and I am just getting back to this. Took it to the dealer and mentioned yellow vs green fluid and they didn't know what I was talking about and said all fluids are compatable and their reference calls for CHF11S. I didn"t let them touch it. What is the truth?

Unless it was changed, your '97 car has the old yellow UNIVIS fluid. It should be removed and the updated CHF11S should be added.
