Question top operation

On my 2000XK8 convertable, the key in the door lock does not operate the top. I turn it counter clockwise and nothing. Is this a common problem?

You need to turn it quite hard past the stop and hold it, (it is spring loaded). Are you sure you are turning it hard enough?

You have to hold in the counterclockwise position during the open operation. mine takes a few seconds before it starts to engage - maybe 5 or so.

I am turning it pretty hard but maybe not holding it long enough. How long should I hold in this position?

Thank you. I'll try it again. Also, does it work for putting the top up?

You need to hold it under tension through the entire cycle, just like the console button.

One of the advantages of the Remote Top that I sell is it is two touches on the remote and then you do not need to hold the buttons.

Yes works for up operation as well just in clockwise direction

Or you can use whitexkr's remote which several folks have added with great results

Yes, it is compatible with your '03 convertible.

It will draw about 0.20% (one fifth of 1%) of the battery charge for each top cycle. That is not enough to have any meaningful effect on the battery life. The unit itself draws virtually zero standby power (a few millionths of an amp).

There are now hundreds in use and no reported issues once properly installed.
