"transmission fault"
Today I took the Jag out to a meeting, parked for an hour, and when I started it up, I got a yellow light and this message. It seemed like the trans was stuck in a low gear. pulled over and shut it down. restarted a few mins. later and problem went away. I also had a dead battery a few days ago, but jumped it with my battery pack and put the charger on it for 5-6 hours. car started up right away. the battery was purchased in 11/2016. Anybody have any advice?
The battery is probably not fully charged, and may have been damaged by being discharged. Stop by a parts store and have it load tested. Also ask them to read stored codes and report the codes here, not their interpretation.
As above, Battery is the first place to start. My 98 XK8 did that, then didn't pull it again for months. After a while it started doing it more and more frequently. (Battery was replaced at the first error.. It tested good, but I discovered it was the wrong battery, replaced by previous owner and markedly smaller than the spec) Eventually after checking (repeatedly) all of the shifter micro switches, I wound up needing to adjust the shifter cable. It was about 3/4 inch or 2MM out of adjustment. I haven't had the code since. *knock on wood Mine was pulling P0706.
