Transmission pressure control valve
The subject of the main pressure control valve contrubuting to the A drum failure has come up. There is an updated version available for this valve. Can anyone tell me what the update consist of? And is it an easy thing to change with just the pan removed?
In the very near future I will be changing my trans oil and filter and was wondering if it is worth while changing the valve or not. Car has 50k miles and drives and shifts good. No hard driving or high speed.
Thanks guy. Always a help.

I thought I sent you some info on this recently, must be my memory problem again. When you put the valves next to each other, there is an increase of about 2 mm in the length of the first segment.
With the filter out, just remove the T27 screws (about 2 dozen) from the forward valve body, and disconnect the sensor. Then wiggle the valve body to get it off the locating pin. Careful prying with a sot wooden wedge may be necessary.
With the valve body on the bench, use bar clamps to hold the valve cover plate while removing the screws, the springs are stiff. It's the plate on the left side of the body looking from the back. It is easier to replace the cover with an extra set of hands.
You will need a little over 7 qts, fluid to refill. This is a messy job, but not difficult.

So you must remove the valve body to replace the valve. My indy that I was planning to use won't go that far. He just wants to replace the filter and change the oil. Kinda independent. But that is what I faced with or a very, very long drive.
I gather the longer part prevents creating a ridge in the bore that can cause the valve to hang up. Is that right? And do you think that just changing the fluid without doing the valve will do any good?
Thanks for your help RJ
To be honest, I don't know what the new valve does, but that sounds reasonable. I just accepted it as being better because ZF said so.
I had already begun a program of changing the the fluid and filter before I was aware of the valve, and would continue. This is my fourth change, now, and I won't do it again for 10K mi or so.
