Default Trunk/Boot Struts

May sound like a silly question but what are these struts meant to do?

When I unlock the boot nothing apparent happens at all, I'm assuming it should at least jump up a little bit.

When it's open the struts seem to hold it open fine.

I'm going home next week so if i need new parts I'll get them ordered up and delivered ahead of time.

Norri,

If yours are gone then so are mine. I've never had a Jaguar where the boot opens more than a couple of inches on the auto unlock.

The S Type springs right open, most of the time. I expected something to happen with the XK, first time I tried it I thought it wasn't unlocking!
If that's normal no worries, I have many other uses for the $$$s.

Mines the same way, hit the unlock button ans it unlocks and hardly moves which I like cause it doesn't go flying up. The struts seem to hold it fine once up.

When I unlock the trunk, it moves up about an inch at the most... It also does not sag down when opened up to full open.

Well they finally gave up the ghost and the lid cracked me on the head last week in Vegas.
I got new ones from here High Quality Automotive | Marine | Industrial Lift Supports (Also got a set for the S Type bonnet)
It now jumps up about 1/2-1" when I unlock it after I lift about 6-8" it lifts itself up and self closes from around the same distance.
So I'm a happy bunny.
