Default Trunk opener

Just wondered of any of you guys have a trunk that, when you hit trunk release on you fob, opens up fully by the gas struts?

My trunk just unlocks, I have to lift it open. Perhaps my gas struts are in need of replacement?

Thanks.

No, mine only unlocks as well. Is it supposed to pop open completely?

Ditto. My needs to be lifted open by hand. Once it's in a fully open position, it just stays like that. To cose it, however, I must hold it or it will slam down.

That's what Ive been wondering! It would be handy when you have your hands full to hit the fob button and load the trunk because it opened for you! I had an 01 Jetta that would do this.

Perhaps someone with a newer (05/06) model or someone who has owned an XK from new could enlighten us?

My previous XJ40, X300, X308, 2 x XK8 and current XK all just release the luggage compartment lid.

With each one, it opens a few inches but doesn't go right up on the gas struts.

You could always put a linear actuator that activates when you push your trunk lid button, rather than just spring open.

Struts are available in various lengths, mountings and weights (internal pressures.) One just has to be careful that the mountings can take the additional pressure without deforming, especially when closing.

I like this idea quiet a lot actually. Has anyone ever attempted this project on an Xk8?
