Default Tuner in OEM radio- '02 XKR- not working

Tuner in OEM radio- '02 XKR- not working, odd thing is that CD is fine, haven't checked cassette, when I hit the "phone" button, it still comes up as no phone attached but when I try to go to the radio, the LCD goes blank... just no radio...no sound, no display! any insights?

No this is new one 4 me. When it goes blank does antenna retract? I assume am is dead too.

If antenna recedes, pull unit and see how /why am fm button is interrupting power supply.

If it doesn't, press 0 to bring up A channel's. See if you get traction there. If you hold 0 does it program 9 strongest stations?

Look up how to put unit in service mode. Fiddle with settings. (Service mode see tsb "stations cut out" )

This is tough. I can't think of much to help

Thanks John, it does ultimately drop the antenna after a brief delay, no AM either, I'll try those...

OK so that tells me this interrups the power supply as if you "shut the unit off". WCben, I am afraid you're going to have to pull her out (not that hard - see Rev Sam's video on Utube about how to remove center console and radio. Ask us for help if you like many of us have doen this many times.

I'm really sorry but it'll be a miracle if you can fix this with contact clearner or resoldering an obviuosly loose connection. But stranger things have happened.

Keep us posted, I've got my fingers crossed for you. The good news is that these units are availble on ebay all over. FYI - I once heard of a gent replaceing his with a unit from Europe. Those units require a security code be entered each time battery is interrupted. North American units do not.

WCBEN

A bit off topic but if you end up needing to replace the head unit I will be open to buying your old one from you. I need just the face plate but all the used ones on Ebay are WAY over priced for something I will tear apart. PM me if interested.

I'll keep you informed, I'll likely get this one going again, I've had the dash apart a number of times, this will make it all that much easier to to some bulb replacements dash repairs that need to be taken care of since the local dealer down here butchered my car...

turns out even after a couple of "hard re-boots"...with no change, the battery died and I had to charge it... before the battery going down, it had been fine, (the battery...she just sat for too long and it went down)... so, after charging, the tuner is back!... never seen a head-unit behave like this and I've been in the car stereo industry since '82!... hey at least it's working again!!!
