Default twitching in the steering at high speeds ?

hello all,

i am now the proud (but broke) owner of yet anutha kitty kat... as of friday it makes three.
i bought a 2006 xkr coupe with 47k miles. (might have seen it on autotrader)....Billy Clyde this might be your fault....
it has the same issue as my "05 xkr conv... it would first strike you as being a bad tire or out of balance issue however new wheels and tires eliminated that possibility.
at highway speeds it is an annoying, rapid, twitching in the steering. my thoughts take me to the electronics...has anyone experienced this ?
i have scanned the threads but have not found a discussion on this.

any and all input, thoughts, experiences would be greatly appreciated !

max, XKRFACE, The Tramp & ? ... i need a name for this kitty...

^^^^^^ this !

just because a tire is new doesn’t mean it’s a good ‘un.

This sounds like the pressure relief valve in the pump may be sticking, causing a pulse in the fluid flow. To be sure, a pro should look at it. To get at this, the parts involved are the rotary valve with its fluid ports and torsion bar, and the pump. If you replace them both, you'll get it but only one is bad, so decide whether to do it yourself or go to the shop.

Thank you for the input !
Would a fluid pulse be detectable with a scanner of some kind ?

If it were me, I would put my hand on the high pressure hose near the pump while the engine was running, then have someone run the rpms up a little and see if I felt any pulsing. I know of no other way to test it. All this is assuming that the wheels are balanced and round.

would like to know the speed of car when the issue develops. Lack of information yields meaningless responses.

are you afraid John Law or insurance company is monitoring your response ?

I thought you said high speed? Did you forget a 1 before the 45? You mean 145 mph, right?

They have worked out great. I can’t snap a picture for updates yet because I am about to board a flight to NYC, but as soon as I return I’ll post an update.

Life post-graduation is great!
