Further to my original question, once the vacuum line is extracted, is the and O ring that makes the seal against the pipe, if so can it be replaced?
and is the vacuum line to the brake booster similar?
thank you all for your comments and help
Yes, there is an O-ring inside that fitting. It could probably be replaced, but the plastic may be rotten and it might disintegrate when you try to remove it. It happened to me. The fitting is available from Jag at a stupidly high price.
Still a bit apprehensive about trying to extract the vacuum hose at the base of the throttle body in case I break it, I had another idea,
cut the vacuum pipe up near the firewall and leave the push in connection in tact, and when reassembling splice the pipe back together using fuel line hose and clamps.
That’s an interesting band-aid. And might be effective in some cases.
But it doesn’t address the likelihood of there being a 20+ year o-ring at the end of the connector. Which,‘if not already expired, will do so in the near future.
while these parts are not always available as new items, they can be found from reputable suppliers of used parts, like NOMA in north Texas.
Dealers in used parts are going be keeping these cars on the road for decades to come.
These connectors are fascinating; I mean the variety and the creativity of the mind that came up with these things. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how they work and I usually wind up breaking something and then the "trick" to how it works becomes apparent. ;^)
