Default VVT Solenoid Wire Colors

Replacing valve cover gaskets. When disconnected VVT plug on wire end disintegrated. Can plug each wire in indidually but not sure which is left and which is right. Diagram attached. Anyone know which is left and which is right? Not sure I can assume view in diagram is looking down from behind
Am I right that doesn't matter because solenoid doesn't know which way current is flowing? Been told reverse polarity could be a problem.

In case there's a protection diode or similar built in to the solenoid, here's a snip from IDS which should help you to identify which pin is which:

Hi pcolapacker,

We're assuming you're asking about the '02 XK8? Is it the left bank or right bank, as viewed from the driver's seat, that you need the wire colors for, or do you need both? The Orange wires will connect to the same side on both solenoids, and the Red wires will connect to the other side. Let us know if you need both sides and I'll check my car - it's in my shop 150 feet away through the snow or I would have already checked.

Don

@michaelh and @Don B
Thanks for the quick and helpful responses. Yes, 2002 XK8.
Looks like the pic I uploaded was not supported so took a photo off my computer and photos of the wires.
I can probably figure out from what Michael H sent and the wiring manual but if Don B can look at his I’d appreciate it.

@michaelh the diagram not look like the connector on the car. Does the IDS have a diagram of the male connector?

I have a spare AJ27 in the garage - I'll take a look in a bit when I go out.

This is the only view shown for the male:

Pin #1 is the closer of the two to the latch

Sorry for the delay in responding. Here are pix from my '03 XJ8 with AJ27:

Left VVT solenoid. Viewed from behind looking toward the front of the vehicle, the Red wire connects on the left, the Orange wire on the right:

Right VVT solenoid. From the same perspective, the Red wire also connects on the left, the Orange wire on the right:

Cheers,

Don

Thanks all. One was already jury rigged before I did gaskets. Wasn’t sure jury rigged one was correct and other disintegrated. The bend of the wires seemed to point to the correct orientation but I didn’t want to rely on that.
