Default Wet Spot

Hi All, Bill here with 2001 xk8 convertible. The left side(drivers in US) carpet is wet, not a puddle, but wet, just in front of seat. It doesn’t feel or smell like coolant, which level if fine. Also been a drought going on here in Palm Beach County🌴.
Baffled here in The Sunshine State.
Thank You

Bill, couple of reservoirs to check. The brake master, that might be a little forward of the area you are describing but the next one is the convertible top pump. Ther is a line that runs up the A post and a connection about half way up that post for the latch.
Let us know.

Does it feel oily or like water? If like water then maybe your ac drain line is clogged and overflowing into the footwell

Whether it's water or oil is important fo sho...?
Could be the AC drain fo sho...

Could also be a nice little rust hole that has started through in the floor pan-like mine... I hate to say. But you say that you've had dry wheather?

Keep digging. Water problems are strange strange things. Water likes to run!

Good Morning Jay, thank you for your input! Fortunately, the undercarriage is in great shape. The liquid is not oily, checked windscreen drain lines yesterday, they’re good. Maybe ac condensation, but where the peddles are, it’s dry.
Again, Thank You

Check the area around the brake booster. There is a metal bin that surrounds it. There is a small drain at the bottom that sometimes clogs with dead leaves, etc. A straightened coat hanger is normally the tool of choice to ensure any water making it to the bin drains from the bottom. If not, it backs up and makes its way into the cabin from the firewall area around the brake pedal, and then into the carpet in front of the driver seat.

PS: I now realize you said there is a drought, so this is not your best lead...

Check the area at the base of the windshield. Fill it in with some black silicone sealant, at least as a preventive measure.

I believe a leaky windshield at the base was at the root of my Zombie (back from the dead) '97 XK8 problems - light rust, damaged electronics under the dash - so don't ignore it.

Even though you are in a drought, that water could have been collecting for awhile before there was enough of it to manifest itself to you. As mentioned in post #8 above, check the drains on both sides of the cowl to ensure they are clear. I occasionally have to remove pine straw and leaves from those areas to keep the drains functioning properly....

Default Wet Spot update

Hi All, Bill here. Update: got rain the other day, left side floor area picked up water. The bonnet @ windscreen base drain lines run free. Still need to check a few things. The rag top was treated with Ragg Topp a month ago+ covered with non permeable cover if left out.
Thank you all for your insight. The search continues.

Could be a rust hole around the windshield. Of course if the whole car was covered and it rained and was hot, could it be massive condensation? Did you use the ac recently? The drain line is on the right side, but from what ive read, when it clogs, condensation builds up and leaks out wherever it can.
