As part of my ongoing efforts to expand my X100 education, I have today two 'what is it' pics for the learned members of the Forum. While scrolling through the folder recording my recent front suspension refresh, I came across two images that puzzled me when I took them, but which I had subsequently forgotten about. The first is an elaborately sculpted chunk of foam that fell on the floor under the washer bottle as I was removing the driver side fender liner. I could see no obvious secure location for it, or any indication if it is an OEM cushion/anti chafe device between bumper cover and washer bottle or a piece of PO bodgery? As I couldn't decide where it went I left it out when I replaced the fender liner. The second pic shows an inverted hook shaped plastic clip, pushed into the the body sealing foam where the inner fender reinforcing panel meets the inner sill. Both sides of the car have a clip/hook in the same place. Possibly a harness retainer for some option my car doesn't have?
I too have seen both. For the form piece, from the shape of it, it seemed to me to go on the top front of the wheel well maybe to stop the thin liner flapping about. I did notice that there were no plastic fixings in this location. Also my foam piece had disintegrated in the heat, but one side was shiney so maybe there used to be glue on that side.
For the hook, they don’t seem to serve any purpose so maybe it was just a location fixture for factory fabrication when they fitted up the panels.
