Default what engines can I use in 2001 xkr

2001 XKR, 100k, motor seized after catastrophic oil leak. looking for options.
Prefer to stay away from the Nikasal blocks.

1. Can I use an XJR - 4.0L from 2001 or 2002 ?

2. Can I use an XK8 or XJ8 4.0 from 2001 or 2002 and use my donor XKR motor for parts?

Any additional thoughts on motor swap? or links I haven't found?

Thanks,

I would think the computer for your car is diff than the normal non XKR cars. So unless your put another XKR set up in it you may run into computer issues????

You can use the blocks, put your old heads, etc. on it

You can use any 4.0 XKR block, and if you want to avoid nikasil, just ensure the engine is build after October 2000.

Do not use 4.0 XK8/XJ8 engines!

Another option worth to consider is the later 4.2 engine.

Will the 4.2 work. It is my understanding that the computer set up is diff to the 4.0

To keep things simple it's best to stick with a 01-02 XKR or XJR block. The Xk8 pistons are higher compression and will not work.

Just had an additional thought. I believe the timing chains were changed in 02, so that would require transferring the chains and sprocket from the 01.

But I'm out of my depth here and someone with more knowledge should be consulted.

Thanks for the feedback, have located several XKR motors 2001 / 2002 from wrecked cars, in the $2,500 range, should make the swap a lot easier and i can take care of water pump, tensioners, etc. out of the car.
