Default What is towing eye-bolt thread size?

I paid $12 for 3/4" eye-bolt from hardware store, it went in, but feels loose. Thread step is the same, it is probably 3/4"x10 thread. (what I bought). Can it be metric? M20x3mm???

I believe there are different-sized thread patterns for different model years....

The early tow-eyes are M20 x 2.5mm RH thread.
The later ones are M16 x 3.0mm LH thread.

You need to search this site for "tow eye", and look through the results, like this one:

I used 3/4"-10 thread, it worked.
USA 10 thread is identical to metric 2.5mm
3/4" is 19mm, but original tow eye has 10 working threads, mine went in probably 20 turns.
I'll go to junk yard and check all Jags there. I go there anyway about twice a week.
Thanks for all responses.
Let me know about BMW, Mercedes and other European cars sizes please.

Be careful with the tow eye under heavy load, like hauling up on a tow truck.

If your 3/4" (19mm) tow eye tears loose from your car then good luck with the repair bill.
The overall diameter is smaller (19mm vs 20mm) so it will likely strip out the hole/bolt and fail under heavy load.

"USA 10 thread is identical to metric 2.5mm"

There is no identical correlation between SAE and Metric. They might have similar dimensions but not IDENTICAL.

Make sure there is nothing behind the car when pulling it up on a flatbed tow truck.

USA 10 thread = 1"/10=25.4mm/10=2.54mm
USA 24 thread = 1"/24=25.4mm/24=1.04mm[ounojnozb
-------12-------------------------------------------2mm

So you are saying 2.54 is identical to 2.5? Close but no cigar.

A 3/4" bolt will screw into a M20 nut it will also fail when stressed don't do it.
