Thought I would do a practice tire change on my 2004 XKR, in the relative comfort of my garage, using only the equipment that is installed in the car. Lifting the right front was easy using the supplied scissors jack. Loosening the lugs was possible using the supplied lug wrench. However .... the Driver's Handbook says to use the "plastic spanner supplied" to remove the centre badge and the hexagon center nut. I do have a centre badge, but there is no "plastic spanner" supplied. Does the 20 inch BBS wheel have a hexagonal center nut behind the centre badge?

 

I have a 2003 XKR with BBS 20" wheels. NO nut behind the badge. You might have trouble removing the wheel based on corrosion between the wheel alloy and steel hub.
A rubber hammer helps, wire brush the hub and a little anti-corrosion lubricant will help future removals.

BobF nailed it. There have been a couple of times when typical surface corrosion between the hub and the wheel have caused me to have to beat on the tire with a rubber mallet in order to break the grip. The first time really surprised me as to how strong that rust grip had become since the last time I had the wheels off the car for a tire rotation....

 

hi,if your center cap is just the clip in type,the thing I do to remove mine is a qwick light tap from beinde with the plastic locking wheel nut cover removal tool

 

I ALWAYS rotate the centre caps first before trying to push them out just to break any grip between the four plastic lugs and the wheel centre from a build up of road dirt.

Broke a lot of centre cap lugs before I learned this trick from a dealer tech!

The hardest wheel removal had to be the Jeep Cherokee where the owner had painted the brake drums with a nice thick red enamel before slapping the wheels back on and baking the two together with braking heat. No corrosion when the wheel finally came off after whaling on it with a 10 pound sledge.

 

Wow. After you finished using that sledge on your wheels, I sincerely hope you went over to the previous owner's house and used it on his noggin....

 

No, it was all good ... customer vehicle in for brake work.

First, it was the guy in the next bay over plus the guy two bays over whaling on it with alternating blows. The rest of us just watched in awe and gave advice.
