Default Why is my engine so dirty?

So i have recently done the secondary chain tensioners and today dropped the oil pan cleaned the broken bits of plastic out the oil screen and replaced the gasket/oil/filter.

So why is my engine internals so god dam dirty. I have service history with an oil change every year and its only done 80,000 in 13 years

Wonder if:

- the oil changes were actually done?

Id be more concerned with that second pic, is that the primary tensioner? If so you need to get it replaced asap to save you opening up the oil pan again!

That looks pretty clean to me. There is no sludge I see and the chains look very clean.

You will always get a buildup where oil sits or pools or where you don't have active lubrication.
