Wider tires on stock rims?
The time has come for me to replace my rear tires, although, due to the tires I currently have on the car being out of stock everywhere, I could end up replacing the entire set with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s instead of getting the same tires I have now for just the rears. Mind you, my front tires are still good so financially it doesn't make much sense. Here's where I have to wonder why Jaguar staggered the tires by only 10 mm? My current rear tires look ever so slightly stretched. I was wondering, instead of running 255/45/R18s in the rear, is it safe to switch to 265/45/R18s? It would make the rear tires look less stretched on the rim, and might improve traction?
Has anyone tried this?
The current setup is:

Suitable offset still needs to be used with whichever wheel/tyre combo you settle on.

I guess he did as he also put H&R wheel spacers but the front tires rubbed the fenders at times.
I removed the spacers but the tires look fine in the wells.

Hey Stumpy,
Pretty cool info. Did you get that from a web site? Share the link?

This is way more info than I expected. Unfortunately Costco doesn’t have a tire in that size without them being the ultra pricey Michelin Pilot Sport tires that are out of my budget.
I too use tire size calculator quite frequently. One thing to remember, more for the original poster than anything, just adding to or taking away from the width number actually changes the height of the tire as well. Thats where the calculator comes in very handy.
