Sorry, my mistake.

I was looking at the wiring diagram and the lines to the driver/passenger boxes are drawn as dotted with a note about RHD/LHD. I assumed that this meant that the wiring harness was reversed between the two.

Open the door and on the side of the dash is an access panel. Sort of a triangular shape.

They are: cars use left & right. Standardised many years ago.

LH and RH are always taken from the rear of the vehicle looking forwards.

Hence LHD and RHD perfectly describes the location of the steering wheel.

Lol. Very nice.

But I will admit to confusion when others use driver side, passenger side, with abandon. And then there're the near side and off side expressions, like watching a football match. So port and starboard, left and right, are all equal in my book.

I know, but looking into an engine bay if you say its on the left hand side. It would be to your right!!!!!
That`s why a long long time ago sailors started using Port & Starboard and Aircraft as well..

Have fun

Others may say those things but left & right ARE standardised. See SAE, ISO etc.

You're citing local people using more or less slang. They probably also know it's slang and what the standard terminology is but just continue with their slang. But have a look at the workshop manual and you won't find offside and nearside.

That's like saying if you stand facing the rear of a ship that port & starboard are swapped. They're not. Nor are car directions. In both cases you just need to know what you're talking about. You do realise that similar to what you put many people on board ship won't know which is port and which starboard...

Another newbie question ..could you drain about 2 pints of oil out of your AT drain hole and just top it up with fresh ?if you did this say once a month eventually you would refresh most of your oil over a year...
You could gain access by just jacking up one side of the car on the drive.

It is said that the quantity of oil in the AT is critical and you would need to do this with the engine running otherwise oil would also come out of the fill hole, so if you are going to that bother why not just do it as per the recommended procedure. I plan to do the oil change for 3 years on the trot then forget about it for the following 5 years and then repeat.

Agreed. This is a complicated, messy, potentially dangerous procedure (if your skin comes in contact with the hot exhaust pipes) so if you elect to do any ATF draining, it is far better to just go ahead with the complete drain-and-fill procedure from start to finish....

Next new minor problem!!!!! The yellow/orange Abs warning light showed today. I stopped the car switched it off, pressed the brake pedal, bit spongy, started the engine and light was off with a firm pedal ?

My immaculate 2004 XKR Cigar lighter worked but the phone charger would not connect. I noticed the center connector in the bottom of the female end was brown. The lighter looked to have never touched a cigarette or cigar so just normal air oxidation. I touched my dremel tool it it fir a second or 2 and viola phone charger instantly lit up and works like a champ.
