Default Window memory issue

The memory of my windows doesn't last. I have a 2001 XK8 convertible. When I set my windows it remembers but after opening the door a couple time the window won't close completely and keeps going lower every time I pull the handle. If i set it again it will remember but then do the same thing again. Has anyone else had this issue?

Probably time to replace your battery. This is typically one of the first noticeable signs of a failing battery.

+1

Usually the first sign of a failing battery although it can result from partial discharge if the vehicle is not used regularly and you don't keep it on a battery tender.

it ALSO is from poor connection at the cannon plug between the body and door if your model was built this way. Usually just unscrewing it and then reconnecting is enough to clean and establish a good connection again. Past the battery do this and check all do this with the module connectors too. But the door has shown over the years as they get older is a known issue too.

I have a 2003 XK8 convertible that i love, but I have just had window problems somewhat similar to those discussed, but here is my question:

The window will not go all the way up... period. It will lower with the handle opening, but not return... it continues to get lower with each handle opening.

When the up control is pushed, the window will go .. maybe.. 2/3rds up, but makes sounds that seems as if it is trying to rise but something is stopping the window from rising all the way.

Battery on trickle charger and seems fine as all lights, steering wheel motor, etc... and all other windows are fine. It is just this one window that seems to want to rise up but is prevented by something in the window as it 'grinds' to a slow stop.

Any help would be appreciated!! Many thanks, Richard

The glass could be out of the channel, but it may just need some lubrication. A couple of dabs from a tube of SilGlyde may do the trick....

Default It may be more than lubricating it

Many thanks for your reply.

I think it may be out of the track somehow...
I have tried to pull the window up w and wo the motor and it will not go above that 2/3 height.

if it is out of the track any idea how to determine this and then how to fix it?

You are going to have to take the door card off to see exactly what is happening.

Read previous threads or ask questions BEFORE putting your fingers anywhere near the "X" of the lift mechanism!

Thank you Graham

I decided to take the door panel/card off.... as I'm coming to the conclusion that this will be necessary. At first look, things are pretty well hidden behind the metal structure of the door... I'm not sure what I'll be able to see.
The diagram is a great help. Have others discussed this same problem?

Again, many thanks, Richard

Yes. Look at the nut on the outer side of the door.

where? Scan the diagram above. See the notch on the far right side of the window track? That's about where this nut is..when it loosens, window gets cockeyed.

if not that, ensure there is no debris in the horizontal window channels. I had a stray piece of glass in there years after I shattered the window when the above nut loosened , and I just kept pressing the up switch (not a mistake any one would make twice).

failing that I'd suspect a worn window regulator. Good be a is the are easy to replace.

In addition to the thread linked by Craig in post #13, the attached section from JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information System) has some useful guidance on adjustment.

Clyons & Graham.... I want to thank you both for your help with information and links to how one works on the lift mechanism . It seems to be a daunting job but now I have the resources to guide me! I am not able to attack it for a while but I will let you know how it goes.
