If I was going to undertake that retirement project my preference would be to start with the less flexible coupe platform and go from there to make it mine.

That was my original intention. A friend offered me this 99 convertible in good running order for $2K and it seemed to good to pass up. My goal is 400-450 HP so I think the convertible chassis can deal with that. I plan to completely strip it down so I’ll look into increasing the chassis’s bracing if possible.

Sure it can deal. XKR convertible that we built now has something about 430hp, with stock ECU; when you go for conversion to manual gearbox (TREMEC T56 (holds much more than 1000Nm), or 5-speed manual from Jaguar S-type 2.7 Diesel (it fits perfectly and is used as racing conversion), you have to change ECU as well, and then power achieved should be higher then 450hp, more likely closer to 500hp, depends of your setups. This all is related to supercharged model with both pulleys upgrade, upgraded water pump (Bosch from RR 6.75l) and higher capacity cooling system (custom made, or websites), with stock supercharger Eaton M112, which also could be upgraded with something of bigger volume/capacity. Brembo brakes still work perfect, but probably you will have to change the entire suspension as well - replace all bushes with polyurethane Powerflex Black series, and stock shocks and springs with quality coilovers (so far custom made only, as we did). Best advise for setup exhaust I could give is underaxle 2.25 pipes, 200 cpsi cats (Magnaflow #59555 or similar), X-pipe, and only one pair of long round resonators at the very end (Magnaflow #10415). Also, if you leave 4.0 engine, plastic tensioners should be replaced with metal ones, as well as new chains etc). From our opinion it would be better to replace 4.0 engine with Jag 4.2, or even replace block from 4.4 Range Rover (can't provide more details, but if I'm right, Deuce2000 did it). By 4.4l engine with bigger supercharger you can achieve about 600hp with amazing sound, starting from supercharger vine, and ending with pure racing exhaust sound (you can set ignition on your new ECU to get explosions when shifting speeds, etc etc.... Its pure music!) And of course R20 (9J front, 10J rear) BBS wheels, like Detroit, Sepang, Paris, Perseus.
But the most thing you can do is twin turbo instead of supercharger, there is place for it. Engine should be reinforced, of course, but then you can easy step to 600-900 hp, but with TREMEC T56 gearbox only. By the way, from our experience, any modification higher them 400hp demands limited slip differential, otherwise you can't use this power in full. LSD still available at QUAIFE.
So I would resume that 4.2/4.4 twin turbo with racing ECU and manual Tremec T56, fitted with Brembo / new suspension / LSD / proper exhaust setup is that what would made you happy, especially in convertible body
That's all what comes to my mind at the moment)

Went on a road trip...
I went on an unplanned road trip last week. It was a few days after I changed the fuel pump and got the car running again. I didn't have school that day, I can't remember if it was a holiday or if there was some administrative thing. I woke up and I just felt the need to drive. I checked my fluids, tire pressure and set off to the nearest gas station. From there, I drove off, without a destination in mind. Got on the highway and headed south and was bummed there was some heavy traffic. I decided to take the backroads, through a route we call Guavate in Cayey. That road is in its entirety made up of twisty curves, hairpins and loops, up and downhill sections with maybe a handful of straight sections. I've never seen a speed limit posted on that road, but most people do 25... I was doing anywhere between 40 and 55, and in got the car up to 90 in one of the short straight sections. This road carves through and around mountains until it reaches the south of the island. After about 1 and ¼ hours I made it to the town of Patillas and I realized I was not far off some tunnels in the town of Maunabo, where I could gun it and listen to the beautiful, and far from stock, exhaust note on my car. So I took a seaside road on my way to the tunnels. I wish I had a GoPro camera with me to have taken video of this, but I didn't. Including the return trip, it was 3 and a half hours of driving. I had lots of fun driving the car, and it handled the curves much better than I expected. And through it all, not so much as a hiccup. It was rock solid during the entire trip.
Here's the pictures next to a beach. Mind you, the beach I took these pictures at is quite possibly one of the saddest beaches in Puerto Rico. On my instagram you can see much better examples of Puertorican paradise.
And yes, that window tinting is legal in Puerto Rico... I think it's 30% if I recall correctly.

Beautiful scenery, even if 'saddest beach..'. Looks a lot nicer than the area around San Juan that most see on visits to P.R. Next time I am down I will try to get a quick tour of the outer areas. I have had a chance to visit Ponce' once, but very shortly. On my next visit is your XK available to rent for a tour???
I don't know about renting the XKR as its both my daily driver and one of the few things I have to remember by my dad with, but perhaps a tour could be possible.

our??
Maybe we should all have an XK reunion in P.R. Of course the Pina Colada should be 'paid' to the tour guide for giving the tour.
