Default XK* vs. XJ Seat Control Module

I have an '02 XK8 with what appears to be 2 defective seat control modules. Both the XK and XJ appear to use the LNC2160AD module. If it came from an XJ, will it work in my XK? Thank you in advance!

i have not verified this but I was told that it would work except for the heated seats in the XK.

You might want to post the specifics, but the better path is typically to just have them repaired. The typical failures are well known (the board rubs against the hard plastic shell and the electric tracks fail), and some forum members offer repair services for a nominal fee.

The potential problem with replacement modules is that you have to buy them without knowing how far "gone" they really are, potentially needing repairs anyway at some point down the line, and you cannot be really sure if they will need to be re-programmed to the car, a procedure involving software tools available through dealers, etc.

That being said, it should be uncommon for both modules to fail together. Maybe you mean that both have separate problems. A good test is to swap them and see if each problem moves with the box itself as a way to identify module problems (very common) vs. seat or switch problems (less common).

Hope this helps. Best of luck, keep us posted.

Thank you both! I'm not worried about the heated seats, living in Las Vegas. I'll give the switching program a shot as they each have different problems. I just wish that the car wasn't so damn good looking and my wife didn't love it so much!

I have had seat module problems also and have had then repaired rather than swapping from another vehicle. The go to guy from the forum is Darrell Turner you can text him at 858-649-9090.

Now with that said, if the numbers for the module are exactly the same based on the VCATS label in the trunk you should be able to swap. You shouldn't lose any functions. You can swap the drivers to passenger in the vehicle and they will work in either seat even though the drivers has memory and the passengers doesn't. The features are in the module but the wires going to the module are different for the driver and passenger.

I've swapped XK's with XJ or vice versa seat control modules quite a few times for people with no issues, even in cases where the part numbers have not matched (AD or AG) they still worked in my trials

How do you know if the module will support heated seats? Is there a way to break the code down on the module?

I have a hard time believing some modules support heated seats, while others do not. I could, however, believe the module may need programmed or mated to the car in order for it to recognize the heater functionality. For instance, from what I understand, on the x350's the wiring and plug ins are all intact for heated seats even if you do not have them. The only thing different that the heated seat models have are the heating elements and the seat heater button.

Greverrr, have you been able to successfully swap different part numbered modules and still have heated seats work?

I cannot imagine that the heated seat feature would not work with any module swap that otherwise worked. Heated seats are pretty universal in the world of Jaguar.

The reason for the occasional need for programing of the driver seat is for the seat location memory function. My couple swaps have not required programming.

Having Darrell repair your module(s) is much better than betting on an unknown used unit.

Do check the other potential issues, especially if both do not work. Fuses and pinched wiring under the seats are common problems.

Good to hear your swaps worked.

I know it is the module that is inoperative on mine. Did the swap and verified. I soldered it myself, plugged it in and it worked, so I installed the computer board back into the case and replugged it and it shorted out. Oh well. So I will be looking for another module as I don't think the current one is very useful anymore.

++ On using Darrel. Pretty fast turn-around time. Everything works!
