Default XK and XK8 Oxygen sensor guide

Something I see often is people changing their Oxygen sensor because they get a code, but the code comes back because they fit the WRONG oxygen sensor. It can get really confusing because lots of manufacturers claim to make a sensor for your car. Well, in the link below I provide a fool proof guide to picking the right oxygen sensor for your XK. Includes the part numbers for the manufacturer to be able to get them cheaper.

jaghelp.com: XK and XK8 Oxygen sensor codes and guide

If you have advise for making the guide easier please comment.

Just a note to say that the 4.2 cars were released during 2002 in the UK so would be good to give an engine reference as well as year.

You are right I forgot that the US year models don't concord with the UK's, I just added the engine displacements next to the years.

Good idea to mention the partno's, didn't know you needed different ones for the AJ33/34 engines.

To add, you also need to differentiate the AJ26 4.0 engine and AJ27.

The AJ26 had the small band upper sensors, and from the AJ27 you get the wide band sensors.

The AJ27 started for the XK8 from the 1999MY and for the XKR from the 2000MY.

Thanks.
Did the fronts change in 2006 due to the Denso PanPAG PCM? Did that come in then?

Yeah I added the AJ26 and AJ27 specs to each set of part numbers. Good idea.

Just checked the changes, but you still list a narrow band O2 upper sensor for the 1999 AJ27 XK8 engine, which should be a wide band, so same as the 2000 and up. You should update this as otherwise people will buy the wrong versions as you can't mix the narrow/wide band sensors.

So to be clear in 2000 there were 2 different engine main series for the XK8 and XKR:

An XK8 from 1999-2002 has the AJ27 engine which has the wide band upper O2 sensors.

The XKR still had a AJ26 engine in 1999, so narrow band o2 sensors. Only from 2000 it got the AJ27 engine.

I don't have my jepc running, maybe someone can provide the vin numbers for the different ranges, that is the safest way to check what one has.

Edit: Got it running again, here are the vin numbers with partnos from Jaguar for the Uppers:

He is absolutely right, I missed that, but I fixed it. The XKR has a different Oxygen sensor, I added it to the guide with the manufacturers part number which is 234 9209. Thanks, I missed that.

Hello
maybe someone can clarify.

Avos listed the Jaguar part number for a XKR AJ27 Upper sensor as "LNE1684BB" which cross-references to DENSO 234-9016.

On Jaghelp, the DENSO 234-9016 is listed under "Sensor1 (upper) normally aspirated" and Denso 234-9029 is listed for the super charged one.

My existing sensor cross references to the 9016

Maybe the entries on the table on jaghelp got switched?

Thank you

I think they'll be the same sensor with different length cable. But I suppose buy using the jag part # for certainty.

Ok, I have tried several times to connect to the link but it tells me the domain is parked and that's it...? Is the info gone/unavailable or is there something I have to do that this old guy doesn't understand? I have my 04 XK8 convertible in the shop to do a sweeping upgrade to try to buy some dependability and that includes changing the oxygen sensors but trying to nail down the right ones is proving to be a headache. Can someone give me a clue?

The site is gone, but there are archives on the Wayback Machine. Note that the links don't work:
https://web.archive.org/web/20160307...and-guide.html

Copy of the content attached. Again, the links don't work.

According to that document, it's Denso 234-9028 for the uppers, and Denso 234-4798 for the lowers

I did - for non-US cars. ROW didn't gain them until the AJ27 arrived. Daxter was/is in Miami so the doc. is US-centric.

Here's a pic. of an early ROW cat:

So whats the single upper sensor number for my march 97 VIN ARO12041 and are they the same left and right in terms of cable length. I like to carry one for my trips across france I guess its LJA1682AE.
Do you know the codes I would get for L and R if it failed.

LJA1682AE is what I get, which is Denso 234-4720 from what I can find & the DensoProducts site bears this out:
https://www.densoproducts.com/denso-...efv=2403535017

JEPC shows that same part # for either side, so I guess they're not handed.

Amazon has a couple left at less than half Jaguar's price:
Amazon Amazon

P-Codes P0131,132,133,135 for A-bank & P0151,152,153,155 for B should cover most of it. I've attached the 97/98 DTC list from JTIS
