Default XK8 alarm 16 minutes after setting

Hello, hope someone can help.
When I set the alarm on my XK8 using the fob, 16minutes (give or take 5s) later the alarm will set off.
This happens every time.

Thanks

I see from your profile you have a 2004MY. Does this happen if you set the alarm using the key or only when setting it with the remote?

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Something is not fully shut. Hood, trunk or a door. Can you move either door in or out when shut. Can you feel play in the trunk lid once shut? Can you move the hood up/down at all once latched? That's the logical place to start.

Check to be sure that BOTH hood latches are secured, even if it looks like both sides are latched, you cannot tell for sure without trying to lift up at both sides.

Thanks to grantorino62 and '03 XKR' for your comments.
I checked hood, trunk and doors all look ok.
I discovered that the system will not arm if any of these are not closed correctly. I am doubtful that these would subsequently go faulty after exactly 16 minutes after arming, though, or am I missing the point.

i.e. what is the significance of the 16 minute delay?

Thanks all in advance.

Are there any DTCs in the SLCM????? Last alarm activation is available on some models but I don't remember if this is logged in your MY module or not.

I have a 1998 XK8 that does exactly the same thing.
I set the alarm and within 1/2 hour it triggers.
If anyone has an idea I would really appreciate it.
I don't thnk it holds the last code because the dealer said that they would need to keep it to fix it. Of course............
The dealer is very nice but I am not on the same level as the other Jaguar Range Rover customers of his.

Hello garcys. the story so far.....since my last post.
I purchased a foxwell reader to read the SLM, alas no help, no problem indicated on the device. I have been told by a mechanic that it may be the rechargeable batteries embedded in the active sounder (which is mounted under the RH front wing, I believe). I have not had the chance yet to look at it.

Hi, Thank you very much for the reply.
I am located in the states.
I am not sure what the RH front wing is.
Does wing refer to the fender?
I did not know that rechargeable batteries exist on this car but I am sure that after 18 years they are shot.

Thank You very much
Gary

Open the door and spray WD40 in the latch. The latch has 3 micro switches that may not be making contact because the linkage is dry. Spray it first then operate the door a few times and see if that fixes the problem.

Yes, I think wing is a fender in the US. It covers the wheel. If you sit in the car it is on your right hand side. As your car is left hand drive, then it is possible that the sounder is on the left, I don't know.

It is on the right hand side front fender (wing), there are pictures in the link of the Sounder and the Emergency Battery Backup Power supply.

As with a similar thread, it is helpful to know whether it is the "main alarm" (i.e. car horn) that is sounding, or the security sounder (under the r.h. headlight) that is operating.
If the latter, and you have an "intelligent" sounder rather than a "passive" sounder, then it's most likely that the internal NiCad batteries have finally expired, or that there's corrosion got in there (as in my post to which 03XKR provided the link.)

garycs, I believe mine does not sound the horn, so I concur with DevonDavid.

Here's the link again, happy digging.

I Eventually got around to removing the sounder. (I removed the complete wheel arch liner, but with hindsight, I think I could have removed it via the Headlamp access cover alone without any problem).
Part number 2W93-19G229-AC (Delphi)
I can now lock the car

Next job is to get inside it........
