XK8 Control Switch Lights Not Working?
All LEDs working again! But a slightly crude way of getting there..
I soldered the varistor back on to the board, and decided that it must be a break on the board somewhere that was causing the issue. So my first simple idea was to plug the board back in, switch the engine on, activate all switches then give the board some very light twisting to see if a broken connection might temporarily pick back up...
Well stupidly I did this with a screwdriver in hand and managed to bridge across two contacts on the board :/ .. with a bang, some sparks and a terrible smell of burning all the electrics in the car failed! So one by one I replaced the fuses that I managed to blow (6 in the end?!).
Then I thought I'd go back to the board to try another method and low and behold the LEDs are working!
My initial thought was that there must have been a blown fuse all along, however after every fuse I replaced I would try to turn the engine over but there was no power to the starter motor. Until the very last replacement and I had ignition - so if the fuse was originally broken then I wouldn't have had ignition?
The last fuse to be replaced was driver side box, number 8 (console switch pack & ignition +ve).
So after all of this I'm none the wiser to what actually caused the problem in the first place. But on the plus side I am now more familiar with how it all works! Every cloud eh?
Thank you both for all your help along the way, very much appreciated!

Are you sure that that particular button is definitely working? The LED won't function if the button doesn't work.If it is then I would guess a blown/broken LED as it's only one.The circuit board is simple to remove, assuming you have had the centre console apart before - just unscrew said switch pack from the housing, disconnect the harness, then 6 screws release the plastic casing around the board.A good electronics shop should be able to supply a suitable replacement.
