Default XK8 error message "hood not latched"

My 2000 XK8 Convertible is displaying this error message when the Hood/Convertible Top is fully down and open, not when it is closed. Any suggestions on the cause and resolution? Thanks

Welcome again Steve,

As you have already posted an Intro in November 2019 ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-frame-225733/ ), I've moved your question from New Member Area - Intro a MUST to XK8/XKR forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

OK. I always find it difficult to locate a link on your site to click on for me to post a question. Perhaps you can help me with that as I am missing it, or it is not readily apparent.

Hood not latched is tied to the top latch - does the latch close as it should after opening the convertible top??

Yes it does. The cover closes and all appears to be in order.

Steve,

This is a direct link to XK8/XKR forum for your model:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/

If you save it one whatever device you use to connect, it will bring you directly to this model forum where you can then post questions.

I did have this problem last summer and the reason was that the right hydraulic ram micro switch’s were defectives. I install a « packing white foam » size 3inc x 4 inches between the ram and the body. When it close the top the ram compresse the foam and at that point the microswitch kick in and closed the Hood switch (top latch). So it was the ram microswitch that seems to be defective. I bought a brand new ram and we will replace it this next summer.

This usually means the convertible top latch has not closed all the way. Hold the top button down until the rear windows are closed and the latch has retracted all the way.
