xk8 fuel flap wont lock!
Hi,
I have a 1998 4.o litre xk8 coupe and today went to fill up at the garage when the latch on the fuel filler flap wouldnt release at first but then wouldnt lock. It looks like the little latch on the body itself is broke. Im wondering can i just stick it back on? Any suggestions are greatly appreciatted.

The release mechanism is very easy to get to from inside the trunk. Just pull away the trunk liner on the left side and you'll see the mechanism right there. Of course, if it's the plastic catch that itspec mentioned, then you don't even need to do that.
Can you post a picture of the part that broke?

I just went and looked at the one on my car. Normally I would suggest super glue for something like that, however you'd have to be REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY careful not to get any glue on the outside of the little plastic plunger thingy. Because then the plunger would get stuck and it would probably never work again. I'm a tinkerer, and if that happened to me, I would take the mechanism out from inside of the trunk, disassemble it, and try to glue that little piece back on with some special plastic epoxy. I forget what the epoxy is called, but you need the stuff that is specifically made for plastic. It has a really strong smell and it will make the whole house stink. I actually kinda like the smell, but my wife makes me use it in the garage. I can only use it on the weekends because I end up sitting out there drinking beer and sniffing glue for hours.
If you would rather just replace it, it is pn HJA3093BE ($69.00 list) for the latch assembly and pn HJA3108AC ($2.00 list) for the plastic nut.

i had the same problem with a loose unit.i used a clip to secure it.and while i was in there i drilled a small hole in the lever and atatched a pull wire so if unit ever fails i can open the trunk and pull the wire for gas door..tah-dah..steve
If you open the trunk you'll see a stiff fabric liner on the left side. You can pull it away and see the latch mechanism up near the area where the fuel filler door is. There's a small handle on the latch mechanism that you can pull backwards to manually open the door. If it works by pulling on the handle, but it doesn't work when pushing the button, I'd have to assume the solenoid in the latch mechanism has gone bad or there's an electrical problem between the button and the latch.
If a repair doesn't work out, one of the specialist UK Jaguar breakers will be the lowest cost option for a replacement latch.

White XKR : where do I find the fuel door plastic latch for '99 XK8 and what is the part number please? I tried gluing mine but pressure when installing it is too great even for epoxy.
This happened to my 2003 XK8 recently. It's an easy fix except that the plastic nut that holds the retraction mechanism in place seems to be unavailable from online Jaguar parts suppliers, including Jaguar UK, except for a very expensive one on eBay that might be 3D printed. I managed to glue the broken part of the nut using Loctite Plastics Bonding System glue and so far, so good.
