XK8 Purchase Possibility
67camaro;
im glad to see your doing your homework on things….I didn’t.
I bought a very early production 97 coupe with 67xxx mi. I verified engine number which is difficult to locate but I have original engine with nikasil liners. However, this feature was a problem because back then all fuel had more lead in it than anything acceptable today. The fact that the mileage on my car was low and it runs great I am not worried about it at all. The car you’re looking at is way less mileage so I wouldn’t be worried at all about nikasil. And yes I admit I never compression tested each cylinder but after I did timing chain and tensioners update and water system and changed differential oil but this thing smokes tires if I want. I run highest octane fuel I can (usually 93) and I have no problems. Just my two cents on Thais part of your initial question.
now… engine serial number location on early cars(well mine at least but worth a look)
pop the hood, stand on drivers side of engine bay(us, left hand drive)
locate upper radiator hose from radiator on passenger side and follow it to the crossover/ thermostat housing. Look down between that and valve cover on drivers side and it might be stamped into the engine there.
tips; -have a good flashlight, maybe remove engine cover(just pull straight up) and have patience, and maybe a rag wrapped around a screwdriver with some carb cleaner to clean off surface if dirty.
