Default XK8 throttle body rebuild

I just purchased a 2000 XK8. When I test drove it the abs lights were lit and the person who sold it to me said it needed a throttle body because it would go into a fail safe mode occasionally. I replaced all 4 rotors and pads. Right now the ABS warning lights are not lit and I have driven the car less than 150 miles but have not experienced any issues. I also would like to know what fault codes to look for to troubleshoot both the ABS and the throttle body. I know the ABS light were lit for a reason. I was thinking of having the ABS module and the throttle body sent out for rebuild. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Mike,

There's no need to go looking for trouble - with a Jaguar trouble will come and find you.

If the vehicle had been little used when you test drove it, a partially discharged battery can set off all kinds of warnings. It's a good sign that the ABS warning has not returned. Going for a module rebuild is probably unnecessary.

The weakness with the TB is the black plastic throttle position sensor on the side of it.

Once this starts to go (the tracks wear), it's usually only a very short time before it fails completely. The TPS is not available separately although companies offering a rebuild must have sourced a supply.

Graham, Thank you very much for your reply. A low battery or disconnected battery makes sense because I had to re-adjust the power windows and the clock needed to be reset. I am looking into having ASI rebuild the throttle body. Any thoughts on this companies services? Thanks Graham.

Overall, ASI has a good reputation and plenty of forum members have had their equipment rebuilt there. I have a feeling I'll be sending my own throttle body to ASI soon.

+1

I can recall reading only a very few complaints about ASI and none that weren't resolved satisfactorily.

When you find out the cost of a replacement TB from Jaguar () you'll be even more inclined to use ASI.

I'm about to put in an order for a rebuilt throttle body through ASI as well. They've been a bit hard to get in contact with, but once you do they're good.

I'm also forfeiting the warranty and getting the unit bored out by Maxbore while I'm at it... I figured any company that stands behind their product with a lifetime warranty must be pretty confident with their work. By boring out the TB I can open up the intake and hopefully get a few more horses. Seemed like a no-brainer to make the most of having the unit out.

There are definitely cheaper options out there... you can pick up a used throttle body for about half the price on ebay... but it seemed worth it to pay the extra amount and go for a proper solution, not just a bandaid

Out of interest, is there a UK company that rebuilds throttle bodies?

I couldn't find one when the TB on my 2001 XK8 failed in November 2012.

Yeah I believe so. When I hook everything back up and then unplug the accelerator pedal sensor the one with the throttle cable. It does not go into wide open but it does go into limp mode transmission fault etc etc. So I guess I'm going to take it off and send it down to Tennessee.
