Default XK8 / XKR 4.0L Air Filter Replacement

Hi

Can anyone please tell me how to check the air filter on my XKR as I don't want to remove anything I don't need to.

I see there are about 3 clips on one side of the box and 1 at the back. Do I just unclip these and lift the box off or is there more to it?

Regards

Ade

As you do not include your year, here are the details for the early version

Yes it is that simple. Just watch out for the hose connected to the removable top cover.

BTW there is more than one on the back side, just to make it interesting.

Here is a shot of it opened up with the air filter out.

You may also find the rubber isolater piece under the bottom cover that connects to the fender is broken and this is a good time to replace it.

Many thanks for the info.

Thought it's best to check before I venture into the unknown as last time I opened an air filter cover it just looked like a frying pan sat on top of my Ford Escort engine.

Cheers

I found a good way to "cheat" if the engine is hot, etc! That rear tab can leave your hands burning! You can pry the "snorkel" that goes from the air box into the right front fender away from the airbox, and use a small mirror and flashlight to look at the air filter while it is still in place. There is a small tab on the top and on the bottom of the snorkel that holds it into the box. Just push down and pry out. These filters seem to last 25k miles in typical conditions.
