The Handbooks won't help with that particular issue. The usual cause is a failed brake interlock solenoid. With ignition on, there should be an audible click from the transmission shifter area when you press the brake pedal.
One way to build your post count is to post an Intro. Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Thanks and indeed. I have removed the hex nut so I can poke a screwdriver down to release it. It does seem to be a general electrical fault as many of the instrument gauges and lights are not working. But then after a drive, they came on and the brake and able to get out of park started working. Then failed again later. The instruments are Tach, Petrol, Temperature, Digital ODO, and other dash lights like Handbrake. Now that I can drive it, I'll get it looked at.
I would like to download the owner's manual for the 2000 XK8, but can't see how; the only clickable links I see are for the two Vehicle Literature PDF Summaries. I see nothing else that is clickable. I'm and idiot, I know. What am I missing?
It's a tad large to attach, and I don't want to post the mediafire link direct here. You need USA 04 JJM 18 02 14/00
Open the pdf and the links in the far rhs boxes are clickable.
Open the pdf and the links in the far rhs boxes are clickable.
For example, if you want the Driver's Handbook for the 2000MY then copy and paste the relevant MediaFire Link ( http://www.mediafire.com/file/00tj7cr0r7l4h67/file ) into a new browser tab:
When I compiled this thread, it was easier to summarise all the links into the two (UK and USA) documents than to post them as a list in the thread. It also makes updating much easier.

Thank you so much, Graham, for your reply! My Jag has been out for over 3 years due to a rusty and leaking gas tank, and in that period of time, I forgot what some of the dash controls and buttons are for! Thank you again for your time and kindness.
The factory WORKSHOP MANUAL is JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information System). You will find links to download this in General Tech Help forum:

If you prefer PDF format, links to download less detailed versions of the WORKSHOP MANUAL are available in the FAQ's:
