Default XKR 100, Same part at double the price?

I have a small drip of Power Steering Oil coming from the end of the Power Steering cooler (Near-side front, UK) on my 1999 XKR.

Our local independent Jag specialist tried and failed to remedy the drip. So I've been looking at ways to clean up the problem.

kgpumps gives a good option in his post, I've also checked out the cost of a replacement part at British Parts UK.

That's where I become confused, they look identical in the provided image, apart from the price and part number, what makes them so different between models?

Any chance anyone can enlighten me, or confirm I could use the XK8 version on my XKR.

Two options are listed, for XK8 & XKR owners:

POWER STEERING OIL COOLER
Power steering hose includes oil cooler
Jaguar XK8 1996 to 2001 to vin A11050
Part No. MJA8084AB
£120.00

&

POWER STEERING OIL COOLER
Power steering hose includes oil cooler
Jaguar XKR 1996 to 2001 to vin A11050
Part No. MJB8084AA
£243.57

Thanks in advance.

Suggest you consider other sources. eBay for example. Several listing include a grid that shows what part fits your vehicle. I have found this a tremendous source of valuable information.

Jaguar Heritage appears to keep them at around the £120 mark:

I'd expect OEM or OEM quality from Heritage.

Thanks both for your speedy replies. However it's whether the XK8 part is compatible with my XKR that I'm after confirming.

The Vin numbers for both are identical.

You might have to come up with a strategy for this, depending on the amount of trouble you are willing to go through. Order both and return the one that does not fit, provided the vendor does not make this cost-prohibitive (restocking fees, etc.). Or order the cheaper part and do a test fit with the actual old part. Also, take a hard look at what is there on your own car already, and try and figure out why there would be 2 different parts. My suspicion is that somehow the XKR part has longer hoses to go around other XKR-specific parts, like the intercooler radiator, but this is just a pure guess. Another guess (based on the neighborhood) would be that there is somehow a difference based on the 2 different models of oil coolers.

The SNG catalogue shows that both parts fits both XK8 and XKR:-

It might be worth confirming with them what the difference is.

Thanks for spotting this for me,
dibbit.

Certainly worth pursuing for the price advantage.

Thanks for your reply, fmertz.

Good suggestion of checking other XKR specific parts that could cause the required difference.

Did you ever determine if the XK8 PS cooler hose would fit your XKR? I have the same leak in my 2000 XKR (built in 1999)
