Default XKR access to fuel pumps

Dear All,
I am the proud owner of a 2000 XKR perfromance version (R).
The fuel pumps went bad and the instructions (for an XK8)posted on various internet pages do not match my car. The first difference is that the tank has the sender unit on the side of the trunk and not attached to the pump like the XK8. Second difference is that my car has two pumps (the tank has a waring label that points out that this version has two pumps) The third difference and this is the big one; the lines that go into the tank are not accesible behind the differential. They are covered by a head-shield and it appears as if the only way to remove the heat shield is to drop the rear differential!!!! I spent 3 hours today with the car on a lift and two mechanics and we could not figure out how to disconnect the fuel lines (in and return). Any advise would be very much appreciated

The tank and pump replacement are similar only that the XKR has 2 pumps. The attached link has information that should help especially with disconnecting the fuel lines.

avos describes a Special Tool that he fabricated that allows access to the Fuel Fittings under the Car.

Thank you for your answers.
Nevertheless, my car has a heat shield right on top of the differential that hides the fuel lines. The fuel lines run around the back left shock towards the center of the car and then run underneath the aluminum heat shield. The heat shield is approximately ten by eight inches. My mechanic and I lifted the car and compared several printouts of the Internet with the layout of my car and they do not match. A third mechanic that had worked on an Xkr before confirmed that you have to drop the differential to remove the heat shield and detach the fuel lines.

And did you read the pdf that Gus pointed at?

The issue here is getting at the two fuel lines entering the bottom rear of the tank from the bottom of the car. I kept looking where the fuel lines from the fuel filter went under the heat shield thinking that is the location where the lines entered the tank.
If you really want to drop the differential go right ahead. Otherwise take the time to actually read what has been posted.

My 2000 XKR doesn't have a heat shield where you mention it, and JTIS doesn't mention any heat shield or the need to lower the diff, so it sounds a bit non-standard to me.
