Default XKR Boost Gauge

I'm thinking I would like to mount a boost gauge in this XKR I'm planning to get soon. I'd like it mounted in the dash somewhere, not on top, and have it blend with the rest of the OEM gauges.

Any ideas?

now that you have the nav system, why not just put the video switch in it, and install that fancy interface w/ digital gauges that whitexkr has in his car? Boost is in fact, shown on his screen shot in that thread.

I like the old style aux gauge cluster, so I procured the gauges and center wood panel piece off eBay, and the wiring harness from WhiteXKR. I may swap out the clock for a boost gauge of the same size, or keep the clock if I can find another spot on the panel for the boost gauge.

I'm a hopeless retro type. lol

The three gauges are a unit, so to is not practical to swap one out unless you go all aftermarket for all three.

That's true it is a unit, and I was a little confused when the service manager suggested it, but he's not a tech lol. I'll look for a space elsewhere. I really like the clock anyway.
I did show your instructions to one of the techs and he was very impressed with your harness design.

Here is a couple of photos of the gauge I have mounted on the pillar post, the gauge pod is trimmed in leather.

WOW, looks like factory installed, I have seen some awfully horribly looking ones but yours is an exception

Out of interest, what are the badges on the other gauges?

And who sits in what looks like a little mini-Recaro seat mounted at the left air vent?

The badges are Arden logos: http://www.arden.de/en/

I think a cell phone fits in the little Recaro.

@jaxkr

What spot did you pick to tie into to pick up the pressure?

The rubber hose for the fuel pressure regulator?

That's where my pickup is. Another convenient place is the MAP sensor in the center near the firewall.

Thanks! That would save crossing the void between the engine and firewall when running to the interior.

I picked up off the fuel pressure regulator on mine & it goes to an interface unit that is mounted under the panel where the master cylinder is, then a wire goes inside the car to the gauge. The only problem I have had is that I had to secure the vac lines as they tend to pop off under 20 psi of boost. I like the idea of picking up from the map sensor espescially as I had to relocate mine near the boost gauge interface.

Thanks for the tip on securing. The MAP seems to be ideal. It sees the right pressure, and it is in a good location. The VDO does not seem to use a separate sender. Or, at least it is not mentioned.

I'll have my new water/methanol injection system installed on Thursday! =) I'll report on Friday how 'cool' it is.
