XKR Boot Securing

XKR Boot Securing
Recently finally got the 2006 XKR Victory Convertible I had been searching for! However therein lies my question - I have had XK120's, XKE's and XJR convertibles, however the "boot cover" for my "new to me" XKR is a puzzle for me. Namely, how the boot is secured when covering the folded top. I know the back of the boot is only secured with the three tabs that go under the deck lid (excuse the slang from the Colonies) My question is relative to the securing of the front of the cover. My cover has a "lift a dot" fastener on each end and two metal grommets in the leading edge of the boot cover (it tucks down behind the "rear seat back", but doesn't have anything to actually fasten it down. The only thing I find looking at the seat back compartment is two chrome "brackets" that are in line with the grommets in the boot cover, however they are several inches below the grommets. Is there supposed to be some kind of fastener to connect the two (the grommet and the chrome brackets)? Without something to secure that leading edge, the boot keeps working forward and threatening to balloon up! What am I missing in this situation?

Here i a thread on that topic: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ch-air-116723/
It sounds like the previous owner modified the cover and probably used some kind to stretch cord to tie the grommets to the cleats.

It well might be the case, as the apparent factory design, displayed a "shocking" lack of aerodynamic expertise!

If you are missing the inserts for the tabs that go under the trunk/boot lid, wooden dowels cut to fit work just fine and are cheap. The extra holding of the dowels is worth the 10-minute fix.

This exactly what I did for mine. Went to a marine supply store and bought a grommet kit to make the holes secure. Two short bungee cords from Harbor Freight attached to the brackets on the seat back and no more problems. Holds well up to 125 MPH (or so I have been told ).

I thank you all for the replys/suggestions. After I looked back in the owners manual, I wondered if it was just me that didn't know how to put on a boot cover. I still don't know why Jaguar felt they shouldn't secure the boot the way they have been secured to the seat back, since Moses was a little boy!
