Default xkr window rubber replacement

XKR convertible
sorry if its been asked before but i`m trying to replace the A frame window rubber on my front window. Its the piece about 18 inches long that runs up front of window which the window slots into when closed . its all bubbled by aluminium corrosion and needs replacing. I`ve got the new rubber but I cant get the old one off, it looks like it was glued on or the corrosion is so bad ( white powder under rubber) its just stuck. Any ideas please--thanks

Is the rubber available as a separate item?

I never had a convertible but expected the A Post seal would be a similar bonded rubber/aluminium construction as the Door Waist Seals on the Coupe and Convertible ......?

I have a similar problem with my seal and where it comes down near the mirror the previous owner has glued it so it looks a mess.

Will keep I eye on this thread

I would try a bit of heat to try to get it to release, however the inner metal parts on mine were too far corroded to allow reuse. I replaced with a pair from California ebay that were in perfect condition.

It looks like the rather unimaginatively named Seal Retainer (item 2):

Grab it with a pliers or vice grips, BE CAREFUL, and pull upward, it should come loose easily. I have a set that is very nice from a 2000 XKR I recently parted out, that I will sell for $200 plus shipping if your interested. Not perfect but very nice, original Texas car. Text me and I will send pics, 513-235-6911.
Good luck, Neil

ok thanks--will bear that in mind.
Made a start yesterday using a Dremel (carefully)and tiny sanding head which seems to be working but slowly.

OH I thought you were referring to the door window strips just aft of the mirrors on the beltline. Sorry, the ones on the windshield pillar are attached with screws along the length inside, top to bottom. I have those pieces too if your interested.
Sorry for the confusion.

No problem. Will be much easier if i can locate those screws and remove.
Can't believe such a simple job could turn out so tricky

I will post a pic of a removed assembly in my gallery when I get home and snap a pic. That might help you out a bit. If I remember correctly I had to peel back the inner seal to get to the screws and remove.

I posted a few pics of the seals and retainers in my gallery, if you take the retainer off it might be easier to slide the rubber seal out. Not positive on this.
Good luck,
Neil
