Z, its written inside the drivers door. Open door, look at latch on car, raise your view, see sticker that contains manufacturing date, paint and interior color codes, front rear weight distribution.

if you don't have one, tell us. I'll try to remember next time I get in car for you.

Thanks for pointing out the sticker, it's still in place and still looks new.

Based on this alone, I'm going to have to reevaluate, and downgrade, my powers of observation

The numbers on the sticker are not the front/rear weight distribution, they are the gross axle weight ratings (GAWR). That is the maximum weight on each axle when fully loaded with four passengers, fully fueled and maximum weight of cargo in the trunk. If you add those numbers together you should get around 4600lbs which is the gross vehicle weight rating.

The curb weight is about 3800 lbs for a convertible and about 3600 lbs for a coupe. Fully fueled with no passengers or cargo F/R weight distribution is about 51/49 for a convertible and 52/48 for a coupe.

That's makes more sense, since my '02 coupe sticker has the rear axle numbers higher, which is not what I'd expect with the engine so far forward.

..........I would've loved to see what they used to simulate the two rear seat passengers

thanks for the clarification. What year model are you using for those numbers ? I imagine that they vary from the early years to the 4.2 engine years .

Can you reveal the source for the "dry" weight numbers ? Jaguar service manual, road tests, or etc. etc. ?

Thanks again,

Z

those numbers are from an early year car (1999 I think), and it comes from one of the shop manuals, but I don't think it will vary much by year. I think you will be within 100lbs of those numbers regardless of year.

I don't know of anyone that publishes dry weight, the numbers I used above are curb weight, which includes all fluids but no passengers. To get dry weight I would take the curb weight for your car and and subtract the weight of fluids:

-119lbs for fuel
-24lbs for antifreeze (assuming xk8)
-17lbs for transmission fluid
-12lbs for motor oil
-7lbs for window washer fluid
-4lbs for the electrolyte in the car battery
-2lbs for power steering fluid
I would ignore the weight of the brake fluid

That should give you an estimate of dry weight.
