Young man on a mission with his xk8 Advice please.
Hi all this year I recently picked up a 1998 xk8 convertible for the princely sum of £900.00, the main reason why I got this car is I lost my father to a motorcycle accident but he loved jags having a xjs and more recently the X type. so I wanted a project to keep me occupied and to remember my dad by, plus the xk8 convertible is a very nice looking and powerful car. So obviously it's got problems for £900.00 but the good news is it's driving and has an mot on it now. After running diagnostics on the car it came up with a mechanical guard fault that come on the dash as poor vehicle performance and battery not charging. So changed the throttle body with fresh gasket and payed an auto electrician £300 to go over the car with the out come that 14 volts was running through the car. The poor vehicle performance and battery not charging remains on the dash, the car takes off like a rocket ship but stops going any more dead on 90mph. Now a kind neighbor who shares the passion of the jaguar kindly lent me his jaguar scanner that picked up more codes than a £10,000 snap on reader. The codes are as follows U1260 u1261 u1135 b1232 u1041 b1236 b1402 b2182 b1234 b1595 b1794. Wow that's a lot after much research I think it's the cluster as the car was sat around for three or four years under a tree from the previous owner and was damp inside from rusty floor pans that have now been Wealded and repaired so possibly some damp got in there. So I'm calling on all you jag lovers out there to help me finish this project and get it driving properly again and bring a smile to my face again. So please all your advice and previous experiences with this
kind regards George

I think I would try a hard reset - basically removing the negative battery cable and touching it to the positive cable for a few seconds. Then see what codes come back. This thread may be of some help -

Hi George.
All the codes you mention indicate poor connections in various connectors. This is also plausible given the history of the car.
Note all your codes.
Is your battery fully charged and able to keep the charge.
Check battery clamps and connectors.
Check connections to high pwr fuses in the boot.
You have two large connectors at the instrument cluster. Disconnect, spray sparsely electrical cleaner (NOT WD40) and reconnect.
Do the same with connctor at BPM (Body Processor Module)
You will find instuctions on how to diassemble in "stickies".
There you will also find how to install JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information Service) and JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog)
ALWAYS DISCONNECT BATTERY WHEN WORKING ON ELECTRICS

Hi all just an update to the situation, I found a Jaguar specialist and believe it or not the throttle body I got from a Jaguar specialist breakers was faulty with the same problem it was running 0.75 amp on idle when it should of been 0.5 and is 0.75 amp short when fully open hence it getting stuck at 90mph. The battery not charging is because of an alternator that does not properly feed to the coms being a brand new lucas when when I believe it should be a dense one so hopefully get it all sorted soon
