Default My newest acquisition...'70 XKE roadster

Now that it's home...Lots of TLC to be done....The car has great "bones" , so most of the work will be on the interior and paint issues....I will have many questions, as the last time I owned an E-Type, was a '67 coupe, that I drove for 10 years...(Then traded on a pickup...Who knew?)

looks awesome, interesting it looks like it has series 1 turn signals, which I think look better than series 2. Does it have triple SUs or dual Strombergs?

Those turn signals look out of place a bit with the later wings.

Yes, the nose is from a '68...Which I also think looks better than the later ones...The headlights don't come out quite as far, and the turn signals are more "faired" into the curve....
I'm down with a chest cold, so the car will have to wait....That hasn't stopped me from ordering lots of parts from Barratt, however.
I still have the original shop manual from my '67, so I must have known I would have another one some day.

The old mix and match E-type saga. Seems to be very common and not a bad thing. My '68 series 1 1/2 has series 1 glass headlight covers. Let us know when you take it out for a spin. If you have Strombergs, consider the 5 minute Stromberg fix, I did it on mine last week... much better jump to the cat.

Nice looking car-good luck with it! I have always liked the S-I bonnet, but while it does look good on the car, if you have factory A/C, it may not be your friend.

A little history; when Jaguar started to put A/C in (mostly demanded by the US market) they quickly realized that the marginal cooling system was overtaxed. The S-II bonnet was designed with a 68% larger opening, which along with a different radiator setup helped keep the engine relatively cool. By the time the V-12 went in, even that was not enough. To get even more air in, the V-12 bonnet has vents in the valance and a spoiler/dam that helps force air into the radiator.

I have always loved the S-I E-Type for its very graceful looks, but with a variety of modifications to overcome the various shortcomings, the S-II is much more comfortable and easier to live with.

Only part of the A/C is in the car, and I am in the process of removing the rest....Personally, here in the mountains, air conditioning a vintage convertible just doesn't make sense....
I have already ordered the new brackets, etc, to move the alternator back to its normal position.

Google for the following as a complete search term.

Crespin mod or 'five minute Strangleberg fix'

They say it makes a huge difference. Jaguar was broke and suffering from the unions while the US was innovating on emissions controls so the S2 etypes suffered as a result.

Yeah. I did that to mine. I removed the secondaries and found a couple of bolts with long shafts before the threads with the same diameter at the Home Depot, cut them to fit, and then slipped them into the side of the carb to block off the butterfly shaft. I used a little bit of sealant to keep it in place so that it's an easy remedy to reverse. Works perfectly. When the car goes, I'll send the shafts and linkage along to the new owner.
