Well, Connor was looking at a new car, looking to trade up and into a Ford Focus or similar, why not an X type says I?


Anyhow, spied a lovely looking example, cheap as chips for what it has.

Around 9 months MOT and at 53,000 miles ( low mileage for year ) recently serviced at 49,573

Its the 2.2d Sport premium and excellent condition for year and mileage....at 153bhp, good combo of power and mpg, saw 44mpg on the way home from Liverpool and could see 50+ mpg on a long motorway run at sensible speeds.







Its in great shape, the back has hardly been sat in, and never smoked in
Looking to make it a little better, so on the list......


1. Although the 18" proteus wheels are in good condition, they're not perfect so a refurb on the way.
2. The brakes are ok, but we're going to do a full brake change, all discs n pads all round shortly for peace of mind, should do him for the next 3 years.
3. Brake hubs painted stock silver and calipers flaming red.
4. Window tints on the rear, nothing OTT just a medium smoke
5. Private plates to fit
6. Washed, clay barred, washed, Poorboys Blackhole topped with Nattys blue paste wax for a showroom shine hopfully

He was coming to the meet in June as a passenger, now as an X type owner himself, just hoping everything is done in time


Needless to say he's more than a little chuffed, so he should be a Jag owner at 19!

 

Jim, tell him that Thermo welcomes him to the club. He is setting the bar kinda high. You can only go up from here. LMAO. That is looking like a really nice car and as long as he is nice it it, it will be nice to him.

I have to check out what I believe to be a little "vagueness" In the steering, more than there should be, so getting that checked hopefully this week.
Hopefully just a matter of track rod ends or maybe a tightening of the steering rack, we'll see.


He's not driving it for the next few weeks anyway, as he still has the Astra and waiting for the 2 years no claims bonus to kick in to make insurance reasonable

I never saw those type of seats on an X Type. Here with the carbon fiber dash the seats have alcantara inserts. Very distinctive.

 

I believe that the car is an ex Jaguar directors car from new, so very highly spec'd.
The 2nd owner took really good care of it and it has around 6 Jaguar stamps in the book.
There's a few small niggle here n there as with any used car, none of them are perfect, but pretty decent all round, the pics don't do it justice.

I detailed the engine bay today and the car in general, although improved it was tough to make a huge difference as she was in good shape to begin with.
The refurbed alloys, new pads n discs all painted along with the flame red calipers, removing the locking wheel nuts and replacing with standards, clay barring then Poorboys blackole + Nattys paste wax along with window tints will improve it further too
At least that's the plan
I collected Connor from work today and an older guy from the place next door ( around late 40's ) made a few interesting comments, I had pre warned Connor.......
The car was on the lift checking a few things when he walked in....

He says to Connor, nice car ( assuming it was a customers )
Connor says, Thanks, yes it is , its mine
He says ( gobsmacked ) No way!!!
Connor says, yeah, bought it yesterday
He says, Nooo I don't believe you
Connor shouts over, Dad, sure this is my car?
I say, Hi there I'm Jim, Connor's dad, yes we collected the car yesterday and it is Connors.

That's the first exchange, then......
Oh right, I see, didn't have you down as a Jag man Connor!
Connor says, oh really, why not?
He says, its an old mans car
Connor - No, they call it an old mans car, cause usually you have to be older with financing, money in the bank to afford one!
Round 1 - Connor.

Next - He says, well, it's really only a Ford Mondeo...( clutching at straws )
I pipe up - Well, in actual fact, you 're almost right, it does share 20% in common with the Ford Mondeo, mostly drivetrain & running gear
He says, yeah exactly....
I say - 20% Ford and all the rest is pure Jaguar, anyhow, The Ford connection is great, parts are cheaper and much more commonly available
He says nothing, looks crestfallen and slinks away

To be fair he's quite a sensible guy, no issues, no accidents or speeding cautions / points etc and we've spoke about it.


It's a diesel, so although actually fairly quick it's not a race car.

 

Love it wish I had this year jaguar I have a 2003 but after all I have and XJ that I took a 2 day test drive Of I'm really about to buy it

 

A desiel we don't offer these in the United States you would be lucky to find a 2006 jaguar not mentioning the 2007 and 2008 models those are super rare in the United States and when I mean rare I mean rare I thought this was a 2.5 version by seeing the no dual exhaust pipes becuase my 3.0 AWD has the dual exhaust pipes!!! I love this color combo and the wheels I need those I have these.



My wheels I don't cosider them as so called SPORT WHEELS!!!!

The diesel will get to 137mph although he won't be getting anywhere near that!
0-60 comes in around 8.5 secs so plenty fast enough
The great thing is the economy, around 40mpg there or thereabouts around town and anwhere from 44mpg - 50mpg+ on a long motorway run when driven normally.

Steering seems a little on the light side for my liking??
Checked it over today and found tyre pressures were high, sitting at around 39psi so reduced them to 34psi all round, and got the tracking done. It was slightly out, but not by much.

It's made an improvement, but still a little light compared to Peters' X type, which is a little weightier.
Checked most of the bushes, tie rods etc and could find no issues.
Taking it into Dougie at Prestige to cast his eyes over and get his expert opinion, car looks immaculate even underneath!

Can only think of a loose / worn steering rack and or pinch bolt for the steering column loose......we'll see what Dougie has to say

 

So a little update.......

Had the car at Prestige and Dougie checked it all over, says it was a very clean example and really good for year and mileage, even underneath.
Having said that, a new rack is the order of the day to resolve the issues, a really good price negotiated and booked in for Thursday!

Today........
1.Wheels off and wheel wells cleaned and treated with "Wet n Black" - big improvement.
2.Whilst the wheels were off, they were once again cleaned inside n out, then the hubs were painted stock silver and calipers were painted red - massive improvement.
3.Having said that, they'll be off again tomorrow for a 2nd coat for an even better finish!



4.New hub centre caps ordered in both black and red to give options ( at the silly Ebay price offered it'd be rude not to )
5.Tyre valve caps ordered and awaiting delivery
6.New Xtype and 2.2d badges ordered
R badge for front grille ordered, received and installed
7.Waiting to order the illuminated leds to fit in the front grille as per Acapiz ( wicked mod !! )
8.Leapers ordered - considering install above the chrome JAGUAR side emblems
9.Leaper decals on order for the headrests
10.Paint & lacquer arrived to refinish the door mirror caps
11.Waiting to book car in to get alloys refurbished to as new standard
12.Engine bay cover removed and JAGUAR painted in red as per my cover / Peters done previously
13.Jaguar mudflaps to be ordered ( JAGUAR and leaper to be hand painted red for an exclusive little touch )
14.Car washed, claybarred n cleaned today too, looking good, but more than a few swirl marks. I taped off a small section and used a cutting compound, then Poorboys blackhole followed by Nattys blue paste wax......see below.

15. Car to be booked in for rear window tints ( medium smoke - nothing too drastic )





After the hubs n calipers are given their 2nd coat tomorrow, we may get down to cutting the complete car, Poorboys blackhole then Nattys to top it off.

New registration plates ordered ad received to be fitted

Nice car for a young bloke! The diamond-stitched leather is the mutts nuts. It's what you get in Bentleys & other high-end motors. It's ironic that it was in the last of the X-Types but you couldn't get it in an XJ...

Yes he's only 19!
I know it's young, but he's a fairly switched on guy, sensible etc so fingers crossed all will be well. Let's be honest you can break the speed limit in almost any car these days and drive like a maniac if that's your style.....he is pretty grounded and we've had a chat or two about it to be fair.

Day 2 - Calipers given 2nd coat and looking great.......




Paintwork - cleansed to remove any tar deposits, cleaned and washed again, then paintwork cut to remove the bulk of any swirl marks, already looking awesome.






It'll look even better again once the Poorboys Blackhole is applied.
Booked in on Thursday for steering rack and also for window tints to the rear.

 

I forgot to add....
Engine bay cover, cleaned and JAGUAR painted in Red to compliment accents installed / added to the car. Connor did this, took several hours and around 4 coats.



Also had another idea.....
Engine bay is very clean, almost spotless after a brief detailing session, to be fair it was already in great shape.
The shock towers though look bare, no covers etc and a little plain, my eyes are drawn to them as a standout, but not in a good way.
The thought is.........

To use some wheel centre caps, with the tabs cut off and made smooth added to the top of these using silicone sealant as an adhesive, should be easily removed if needed with no damage

 

Saw these after much searching....think they look great
I'm speaking to the seller regarding the possibility of getting the Leaper added just above the X type logo





Should be a nice touch in the cabin I think?
