Default Changing front struts video

Nice video on removing/replacing front strut. Just remember to keep the car out of all that rain and snow (and salt).

Thanks! I'm about to watch all their x-type videos.

And they didn't even need to mess with the sub-frame. Nice.

I'm doing this job and everything went swimmingly until I tried to remove the hub carriers from the lower arms. They don't want to move down enough as the video shows at about 5:35. I tried a large crowbar and still no luck. Instructions in the Haynes manual say that the subframe must be lowered 30mm to avoid damaging the lower arm rear hydro-bush, which is not done in the video. Looking for advice.

Hat tip to Thermo for suggesting disconnecting the lower control arm from the subframe. I did that and out came the struts shortly thereafter. Up next is breaking down the struts and reassembly with new parts. I think I probably should get new strut top mounts though, as the old ones don't rotate freely. Grr...sorry for bad picture orientation - I cannot figure out how to fix that.

I've done this 2 times on both sides recently. I found that remove the horizontal control arm bolt completely, this lets the control arm swing outward from the front and it will drop and free the ball joint. I can remove both strut now in less than one hour in my garage on jack stands.....I find this easier than messing with the subframe.
