CW, if you plan on doing the engine replacement yourself, keep in mind that the engine goes out the bottom of the car, not out the top like you would think. So, you need to be able to lift the front of the car up high enough to get the engine out from underneath. After that, like others have said, get the hard to get stuff done then. So, new O2 sensors, a drain and refill of the transfer case (the fill plug is between the engine and the top of the transfer case), and probably a good idea to do a oil pan gasket then too.

Hey Paul, I'm in the south Central Pa, area Greencastle Chambersburg. My Brother is a mechanic. and said he'll work on it. but having somebody who knows this car help work on it would make me feel a lot more comfortable. as you are probably aware there are a few things that can go very wrong if somebody doesn't do their homework first.

So true.
your about 2 hours from me so let us know if you have any major problems and if I am around (travel a lot for work) I/we will do our best to help.
a scan tool will be your best friend and also make sure you keep a list of all your engine grounds
any luck with DR Dome. he may be able to hook you up with an engine and tranny allready on the subframe to just switch the whole unit.

I was able to find a reasonably priced engine with 90k miles. so far I've replaced all the major seals and gaskets on the new engine, and the fun part will begin next week, removing the old engine and installing the new one. I've been researching and studying all the threads about this task and I must admit I am a little overwhelmed, but feel confident it will be a success. I'm just thankful there's a few very informative and thorough walkthroughs detailing step by step how to remove and install the engine. my only concern is the re-alignment of the subframe to avoid any bad camber issues. and making sure theres no left over bolts. lol

Day 1 Pulled the car into the garage
Started dismantling! not bad!
Getting further involved a little more than I have been before but still ok!
Friday! most of Everything Disconnected Ready to drop the engine on Monday! more involved than I had anticipated!
Monday Day 4 ....I hope I remember how to put this thing back together lol ...
My cars in a thousand pieces lol if it wasn't for the JTIS and the workshop manual. it would be a Nightmare putting this mess back together. fortunately me and my Brother know whats going on and are fairly mechanically inclined. ...This job is not for everybody!!
