Default rear view mirror aftermarket replacement

Hi,

I need a new rear-view mirror ( HNC3133AB ) and I'm wondering if there's a less bulky aftermarket replacement that'll do the same job?

I assume there won't be as it controls the headlights, but figured there's no harm in asking.

<- the factory one is pretty bulky

I just replaced the R/view mirror on my 1998 xk8 conv. due to the defect issue. I puchased one with a $100 core charge from Coventry for $195. Looks like it is brand new. Let us know if you need a tel number or anything. BTW: save yourself time. Take a look, count the number of wires on the connection write down the connector's color. This is needed to send you the proper replacement. John

I've got a quote for a like-for-like replacment from a breakers yard for £60 inc delivery, so I'll just buy that if there's no better aftermarket replacements.

Any help?
The rear view mirror with headlamp sensing option is unique to Jaguar. If you are fitting a second hand unit just be aware that it probably is the failure prone liquid type.

I ended up getting a replacement from a breakers yard for £59 delivered. Well, two, because the first they sent me had the same problem.

I managed to smash my windscreen removing it. Ooops. Got that replaced on the insurance. Anyway, it's all in now, and I have a brand new windscreen.

Thanks for your help.

Question Slightly loose rear view mirror fix?

My rear view is slightly loose. When I set it into position, it stays there for a while but eventual slips down a bit so my view changes to that of the sub-woofer below the rear glass.

Suggestions to tight that up?

There is a ring that has fallen out of it onto the post. To prevent it from rattling, I wrapped it with a bit of black tape.

As I understand, removing the mirror can be tough.

Do we have to have a rear view mirror in the USA if we instead have a rear view camera display in the navigation screen full time?

I got the impression they had plenty. Here's their website - they have an international number listed.

By the way, the metal catch that holds the mirror in place was slightly damaged before it got to me, I assume in the removal process at the breakers.

I had a windscreen firm install it for me after I broke my windscreen removing the old one, so they put some windscreen adhesive behind it to keep it in place.

Check the stickies at the top of the page for alternative part numbers - the Acura mirror is an almost exact replacement with an improved swivel joint and gel pack dimming unit

What stickies are you referring to? I'm new to the forum and don't see anthing matching that description at the top of the page.

Thanks.

Thanks. That clears things up. What threw me, as a new forum member, was the reference to stickies. I think I've figured those out now.

Sybesma's Electronics (800-456-4265) repairs your original mirror. They replace the liquid with a gel, so that self-dimming is not likely to fail again. Cost is $97, and when they returned the mirror to me, it looked brand new.

Default Replacement Rear View Mirror

I too used Sybesma's Electronics (800-456-4265) in Michigan when my rear view mirror failed with brown streaks running through it. Their service was fast (i week turnaround) Call them for a service number and then send it to them.

Mine came back looking like a new mirror and it works great! Just be extra careful removing the mirror....you can break your windscreen.
