I’ve checked the lighter and it has electricity when the ignition is off. So technically it should work but I’d like to hear from someone who has actually done this.

I have a 1967 OTS.

Others with more electrical creds than I need to weigh in, but I would not feel comfortable doing that in my 69. That is spindly wire, maybe 12G? There are folks on the MG forums who have done something like this, also installed a charging "post". Any thought about using a modern CTEK battery charger/maintainer?

I agree with Valerie. It's easy to use a maintainer (I use an optimate on my E, and a Ctek on my F) which does a better job . I just clip it to the battery with the bonnet not fully shut.

I think that is wise, I wouldn't trust that old wiring either. (and I, also, use a maintainer). Best of luck!

I suspect you were hoping to be able to use a battery maintainer hooked up to the cigarette lighter, so you wouldnt have to open and close the bonnet to mess with the charger.

I installed the battery connection part of my Ctek charger to my battery with eyelet terminal connectors (not clips), and then ran the end of the the wire with the “quick connect” connection to my wheel well. Now, I can quickly connect/disconnect the Ctek to the battery without having to mess with the bonnet:

It has worked great for years. Hope this idea helps.

Default The CTek

I would be careful, though, about driving around with that connector hanging out.

I'd certainly want to put a fuse (maybe 5 amp) close to the battery at the (+) terminal. Better safe than sorry!

Over here in the UK, my concern would be the amount of wet and crud that could be thrown up onto the connector. Probably wouldn't live long being exposed there. If you drive in nice dry conditions, probably not a problem. Lucky you!
